SCOTT LYNCH’S GENTLEMAN BASTARD READ ALONG
« on: July 27, 2013, 08:20:19 PM »
We at Fantasy-Faction are big fans of Scott Lynch’s Gentleman Bastard series. So much so that we’ve teamed up with Gollancz and Scott to do a reread of the first and second books, and then a first-time reading of the third. This isn’t going to be your typical read along either. Nope. What we want to do, in true Fantasy-Faction style, is make this a community event. We want to invite each and every one of you – whether you’ve read and enjoyed the series before or are reading it for the first time – along for the journey.

As I said in the comments, I'm in! I've not read the second book yet, so this is a good excuse to get to it before the third one comes out. :)

Trying to talk my husband into doing it as a re-read, as he's read the first two already.

As soon as I saw this I decided "why not?" and downloaded the two of them as ebooks. Which prompted me to download two other (non-fiction) books as well. So this site just cost me about £30+.

So this better be worth it.

I loved Lies but I gave up on Red after it began to drag about halfway through. Kept meaning to go back to it. Nows the perfect time.

Cheers for this, great idea!

I'm already about halfway through Re-reading Lies, because I've got a proof of republic, so I'm in for the chat and the extra features, but won't be reading at the same schedule.

Yeah... I'm already 150 into Red Seas. They're not the sort of thing I can read slowly.

Related... Sam Sykes wrote a blog post today about Lies... http://samsykes.com/2013/08/the-importance-of-being-a-bastard/. It's fantastic.

Also, "Nice bird, asshole." is the best line in the entire book.

I'd already decided to re-read before RoT anyway, so I'd just finished it when I heard about the readalong. I've got a copy to hand, but I'm here for the discussion because I could talk about Locke Lamora til the cows come home.

Read the Sam Sykes post. Actually teared up.

I will also be joining the read. I read LoLL a couple of years ago and loved it. I never read past that (typical for me...see Mistborn, Night Angel, etc for unfinished series).

I got through the Prologue last night and plan on spending some serious time with young Lamora today.

Checked in yesterday, 8/11/13 but didn't find any discussion. Is it someplace else?

Best,

Yesterday was Sunday! :P

Chapters 1-4 of our Gentleman Bastard Read Along. Discussion points, notes and HUGE in depth post:
http://www.gollancz.co.uk/2013/08/7481/

PLEASE comment, PLEASE join in the discussions, PLEASE share your thoughts :)

As I always say, we only get offered such cool projects because of you guys and your dedication to joining in with these kinds of things.

Oh, you can also win Locke Lamora badges if you comment too ;)

Just a note to say I really am going to work hard on these. My aim is that in a decades time, when we are all on book 7 and not sure about whether we can really re-read the whole series this will be an alternative :-)

Lucky enough to win a copy, which has now arrived. Just need to catch up now! Looking forward to it.
