Voting Open for Goodreads Best Fantasy

As Mark Lawrence showed us last week, just by getting nominated for a Goodreads Award a lot of people start taking an interest in your work (and, therefore, no doubt, reaching into their purses and getting you a healthy number of sales). As such, actually winning the award is not only high-up on the list of most impressive accolades you can own as a fantasy writer (due to the fact you need upwards of 8000 votes to win), but it can be a decent-size boost to your earnings as a professional.

That said, I don’t think the ‘winner’ of the Goodreads award is as important as simply getting nominated (again, as Mark showed). The actual result is somewhat of an author ‘popularity contest’ where the author with the most fans accumulated over the years tends to win the award. If we look at previous winners for example: Towers of Midnight (Jordan & Sanderson) in 2010, A Dance with Dragons (George R.R. Martin) in 2011, and The Wind Through The Key Hole (Stephen King) in 2012, and compare the book’s rating with the other nominees we notice that the ‘best book’ (by rating) has never won.

But anyway, below is the list of nominees, which I think is pretty comprehensive and immensely awesome AND don’t forget to visit HERE to vote 🙂

  1. I have to agree its a total honor just to be nominated. I have no illusions (or delusions) of winning, but to included with such an amazing list of authors is truly a highlight of The Crown Tower’s release. This is actually my third year in the nominees (The Emerald Storm 2010, Percepliquis 2012) and I just wanted to thank all the members of goodreads who have added my books to their shelves and given them such high ratings.

As a way of saying thanks, I’ve put some copies of The Crown Tower up on a goodreads giveaway. You can enter here: https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/71015-the-crown-tower
