‘Most Anticipated’ & ‘Best Of’ Schedule

Firstly, and fore-mostly, I want to say a HUGE thank you to each and every one of you who has visited Fantasy-Faction in 2013. This site wouldn’t be here without you guys giving us the hits, comments, linkages, tweets, Facebook messages, Forum messages, e-mails and everything else that proves that our content is very much in demand.

This site has been running for three years now and every year we’ve grown bigger and better and we are committed to ensuring that we do the same again for you guys in 2014. In addition to upping the amount of reviews, articles and interviews we publish, going into 2014 we have lots of cool new things too.

Firstly, we’ve introduced a new news section that we aim to update every time we hear something cool. We don’t want to bury our original content, so these updates are confined to the right hand side of the side and can be accessed by clicking the ‘News’ tab on the top menu. Next, we are re-launching the Fantasy-Faction Podcast in early 2014 and we’ll FINALLY publish the Fantasy-Faction anthology very early on in the year too (Copy Edits are now done and being finalised). Another thing we are REALLY excited about is our unique vision for an award… we’ll discuss that in a moment.

But, let us turn back to the past and present for just a moment: Historically, Fantasy-Faction’s most popular posts are our ‘Most Anticipated’ for the following year and ‘Best of’ the previous year blog posts.

For those new to the site, in addition to our own Top 10 Most Anticipated list, we invite the World’s top publishing houses to get involved and nominate their most looked-forward-to books as well. The idea is that although we can look forward to books, we are working purely on guess work. The publishing houses have spoken with the authors, seen extracts, worked on the books and are in the perfect position to tell us what we should legitimately be excited about.

This year we’ve got more publishers taking part than ever! In total we have 10 Publishers each recommending 5 books they think you should read in 2014. That means a total of 50 books have been recommended – each with a summary and reason why the publisher thinks you should be reading it :O Even for the most avid readers this is quite a ‘To Be Read’ List.

Regarding the Top 10 Best Books of the year posts, I’m afraid to say that this is likely to be the last year we run them… but quickly follow that up with the exciting news that from next year Fantasy-Faction will be launching our own awards that will be quite unlike anything you’ve seen before. I won’t tell you exactly what it is – you will have to check back next week – but what I will tell you is that it is far more exciting that ‘Best Book’ or ‘Best Debut’ or ‘Best Cover Art’ … Just trust us when we say that you’ll love it! đŸ™‚

Anyway, I know it’s Boxing Day and many of you have things to do so I will leave you with the planned schedule for all these cool posts to be published and announcements to be made:

  1. Republic of Thieves
    Emperor of Thorns
    Daylight War
    Memory of Light
    Steelheart
    Not to mention the return of Gaiman, Gavriel Kay, Feist and Abraham. You have your work cut out for you.

  2. Best books this year for me:

    * The Rithmatist, Brandon Sanderson
    * Steelheart, Brandon Sanderson
    * Promise of Blood, Brian McClellan

    Greatest dissapointment: A Memory of Light (and I am a HUGE fan of the series)
