It will come as no surprise to you that here on Fantasy-Faction we love authors. One of our favorites, who is nice enough to take time out of her busy schedule to chat in the forums on occasion, is Anne Lyle. And not only does she have an amazing series of fantasy books set in the Elizabethan period, her books also have some of our favorite cover art.
Not familiar with her work? Well here are the first two covers in her Night’s Masque series.
See what I mean? Amazing stuff right? Not only are they unique and eye catching, but they also do a brilliant job of setting the scene for the stories within.
Now based on the first two books I was expecting some awesome art for her final book, The Prince of Lies. But when we agreed to do her reveal and I got a look at the cover Angry Robot sent over, I was speechless!
But I’m jumping the gun a bit here. Let’s hear a little about the book before we see the cover.
Elizabethan spy Mal Catlyn has everything he ever wanted—his twin brother Sandy restored to health, his family estate reclaimed and a son to inherit it—but his work isn’t over yet. The guisers’ leader, Jathekkil, has reincarnated as the young Prince Henry Tudor, giving Mal a chance to eliminate his enemies whilst they are at their weakest.
With Sandy’s help Mal learns to harness his own magic in the fight against the renegade skraylings, but it may be too late to save England. Schemes set in motion decades ago are at last coming to fruition, and the barrier between the dreamlands and the waking world is wearing thin…
Okay, now that you are over excited, let me present the cover for Anne’s latest book: The Prince of Lies.
See I wasn’t exaggerating was I? Larry Rostant has once again come up with an amazing cover, fit to end an incredible series of books. I love the color, and the movement in the cape that makes it look the picture was taken mid-casting. I also love that he got the model from the first book, The Alchemist of Souls, for this cover as well. It gives the covers continuity and really pulls all three together.
The Prince of Lies is due out November 7, 2013. The Alchemist of Souls and The Merchant of Dreams are out now.
If you are as excited as we are to learn more about the last book in the Night’s Masque series, or if you’ve not heard of Anne’s books before, you can read up on them at her website here. You can also follow her on Twitter here and read our review of her first book, The Alchemist of Souls, here.
Thanks, Jennie! BTW, you do remember that Mal has an identical twin brother, right? 😉
Doh! Not while I was writing this up. XD Fixed it. 😉
That is very cool! I love the lettering across the whole series too – it just rounds it off nicely.
The lettering is by Angry Robot head honcho Marc Gascoigne – I love it too!
Very shiny!
What IS that font, anyhow?
I don’t know which fonts Marc uses, but the big one is very similar to Igino Marini’s revival of the 17th century English “Fell” typefaces: http://iginomarini.com/fell/
That had better be nominated for the Ravenheart award. Pure awesomeness!
I like that. It kind of book ends the series, with Mal being the centre of 1 and 3 and Coby in the middle.
Very cool – I like the green too 😉
