Today, I and Fantasy-Faction got nominated for a World Fantasy Award. This is a huge deal for me personally and for the community that we have built here, at Fantasy-Faction.
To see our name alongside George R.R. Martin, Gardner Dozois, Jonathan Oliver, K.J. Parker, Neil Gaiman, Helen Wecker, Gene Wolfe and so many more stars and legends is just incredible.
Although it is the name of the Editors on the award nomination, I hope you guys know that this is for each and every one of you too. This site is a community that has grown because of the amount of people who talk about us, retweet us, encourage us, comment on our articles, get involved in our forums, high-five us at conventions, post suggestions for books we need to read and even just visit us on a regular basis.
I don’t want to drone on for too long, but I will say one last thank you to each and every one of you, whether you voted or simply keep visiting the site; you continue to make doing what we do – writing and talking about the genre we love – so incredibly rewarding.

For those unfamiliar with the award and how it works, former winner, Tartarus Press, writes:
“Literary Awards are curious things, but the ones we’ve always had the most respect for are the World Fantasy Awards, which are administered in conjunction with the World Fantasy Convention. Each year a different panel of five international judges (all professionals in the field of fantasy literature) consider work submitted in all the various fantasy genres.”
The above nominations are for works and projects published in 2013. The awards will be presented during the World Fantasy Convention, November 6-9, 2014 in Washington DC. The Lifetime Achievement Awards, presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the fantasy field, will go to Ellen Datlow and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, and were announced earlier this month.
Marc, are you going to be in DC to accept if if you win?
I am going to try to be! Having just finished four years of university (eight if you keep in mind that this is my second degree!), I am not the most well off individual, so flights + a hotel + food and such might stop me. But, if there is a chance for me to go I will – I’m going to start saving right this second 😉
This is marvelous, congratulations!
Congrats and good luck you guys! This is well-deserved.
