News broke today that Game of Thrones Writer, Bryan Cogman, is set to write a number of movies based on the popular ‘Magic The Gathering’ card game.
According to Deadline, the rights to make a Magic: The Gathering movie were signed up by the studio last January. Fans of the card game will likely be pleased to hear that Hasbro and Fox will work together on this series and that someone who has worked on the overwhelmingly popular Game of Thrones television series has been signed up to write it too.
AlthoughCogman isn’t one of the ‘lead’ writers for Game of Thrones he has written episodes in every series so far. Most notably, he wrote the episode “The Laws of Gods and Men,” which was the one where Tyrion Lannister was up on trial – full of humour and perfect pacing.
As anyone familiar with the movie industry will know, this film may never get made… only a first draft has been ordered so far and no director is attached (meaning it doesn’t look like Fox are in any rush to get it to screen), but the fact a producer (Simon Kinberg) has been assigned and a Game of Thrones writer signed gives us a ray of hope that it’s at least being seriously considered. Indeed, if there was a time to make a fantasy movie then it is surely before the end of Game of Thrones, which we believe will only run seven seasons.
My hubby and I are huge MTG fans. It will be cool to see what they do with the movie.
