You may remember that a few months back we brought you the news of Gollancz’s Discworld Collector’s Library. Well, at the time they’d released covers for 12 books, through to Jingo.
Well, Gollancz have apparently been inundated with questions from fans asking whether more books in the Discworld universe will be released with the collector’s edition covers. Until now they’ve held off answering the question directly, but finally they’ve given fans ‘something’. It isn’t a yes or a no, but rather a ‘it really isn’t in our hands’, here it is:
‘Many of you are asking whether the series will continue after Jingo. The short answer is: we don’t know. The slightly longer answer is that we do not control rights in any of the Discworld books after Jingo; they are published by Transworld. At the moment, we know of no firm plans on their part to continue the Collector’s Library, but if that changes we’ll certainly note it on the Gollancz blog. We now return you to your regular viewing . . . and a competition!
Of the books that Gollancz are in control of though, the answer is ‘yes’. Here is the cover for The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic:
Of the covers, Gollancz have said they feel that ‘Cover artist extraordinaire, Joe McLaren, has hit it out of the park again with these wonderful covers.’ Certainly, we at Fantasy-Faction have to say we’ve enjoyed all the covers so far. Although these two aren’t my favourites (Men at Arms takes that title), I think they will slot nicelyon to the shelves belonging to Terry Pratchett Collectors all around the world.
These books will be published on 7th August and will be the final two books in the Discworld Collector’s Library (unless Transworld decide to pick up the series from Jingo, where Gollancz will depart).
