Fantasy-Faction were such big fans of Peter Newman’s work that we made sure he was at our last Grim Gathering event (which was amazing btw!). We truly believe that Peter is doing something unlike anyone else in Fantasy. He is writing a novel that could be considered ‘Grimdark’, which is fully on trend, but he is using a voice so unique and abstract in nature that it stands out whatever shelf you place it on.
In addition to the standout prose and concepts, the cover for the first book had everything that a Fantasy fan looks for: a hooded man, a huge sword, dark and mysterious scenery, a baby… well, that last one is maybe a little less sought after, but intriguing nonetheless!
Well, today we are so excited that when we took our hourly ‘level of excitement’ reading it flew straight off the chart, because Peter Newman has decided to stop by F-F to reveal the cover for The Malice. Now, obviously, I’ve checked it out and all I have to say before you see it is that if The Vagrant cover blew you away, get ready to be sent into orbit with this one!
Over to Peter for the reveal of Jaime Jones‘s masterpiece and a few teasers for his upcoming book too…
And here’s the cover in it’s entirety *swoon*
The Malice is released on 19th May 2016 (put back from April in order to perfect its awesomeness). Fantasy-Faction will be doing a readalong for The Vagrant before that where we will be breaking down the book chapter-by-chapter and trying to extract hidden details from Peter’s world and characters. Should you wish to take part please leave a comment here or stop by our Facebook Group and find the post and we’ll keep you updated as to the start date 🙂
I am ridiculously excited about this. The Vagrant was something else. So far removed from the norm it drew me in and held me there with demon-mutated hands. Gaming fans of titles such as Fallout (insert number here) and other such dystopian worlds and demon filled sagas will fall for this story, as I did.
This second book looks like it’s set to top the first. As said above, the cover was just the sort of thing you’d want for a story such as this. The new cover looks even better! It’s creating so many questions and I need answers! I cannot wait until May. Hopefully I’ll see Peter at another event like Grim Gathering and have him draw a new stick man in my hardback first edition copy. So excited.

Another great cover from Jamie Jones. I am looking forward to the story progressing.
Wahey Peter! 🙂
I’m also really looking forward to this book! “The vagrant” was a story that picked me up and turned me upside down, and hearing/seeing this description of what “The Malice” (*) is about got me really up.
(*) I have to rememebr to always write “The”, otherwise it could be mistaken by John Gwynne’s book (also a great one!)
Excited! Please keep me informed re: The Vagrant reread.
That cover looks great. First book needs to get the states already.
