Last month I spoke about why, and how much, I love The Kitschies Award. Essentially, it is because of their mission statement, ‘to reward the year’s most progressive, intelligent and entertaining works’, that results in them consistently present a list of books that I’ve either not heard of or have not thought of picking up until seeing them selected. One that sticks out in my mind is A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read and that I’ve handed out to pretty much all my family and friends who will take it.
Well, today, The Kitschies team have released their list of winners that come only after the panel had read all 234 submissions.
The winners of The Kitschies:
- Red Tentacle (Novel): Ruth Ozeki’s A Tale for the Time Being
- Golden Tentacle (Debut): Ann Leckie’s Ancillary Justice
- Inky Tentacle (Cover): Will Staehle for Adam Christopher’s The Age Atomic
- Black Tentacle (Discretionary): Malorie Blackman
Congratulations to a brilliant and talented group of winners and finalists. More about them and the prize here.
