Today the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was released. And it is impressive! Before you read farther, go watch it! Do it!
Amazing right? If the trailer is any indication this movie should be amazing! But we, as Star Wars fans, have been burned before.
My friends and I attended the midnight showing of Episode I in full costume. We were the second group in the theater and sat for six hours waiting for the show to begin. And yes we cheered when something awesome happened and applauded the credits, but afterword we admitted to ourselves that part of our enthusiasm had really been Stockholm syndrome. We were invested in this movie; we needed it to be good.
We kept up our façade through the next movie, some of us giving up, others pressing on until the finale of Episode III pounded its nails in the coffins of our disappointed hearts.
The midi-chlorians were bad. Anakin’s acting was cheezy. But when Darth Vader screamed at the end of the movie, there wasn’t one supporter left in our group of Star Wars diehards. To this day some of my friends who attended the opening refuse to admit there are more than three Star Wars movies.
The announcement that Disney bought Star Wars was spoken of on the edges of the group. When J. J. Abram’s was announced the Trekkie crossover fans took heart. When the cast was announced we all pretended not to pay attention even though most of us would pour over articles looking for clues that maybe, just maybe this wouldn’t be like the last ones.
Today the teaser trailer is out. A year from now the fate of the galaxy will be decided. J. J. Abram’s you’re our only hope. Please as you finish this movie, take the words of Yoda to heart: Do. Or do not. There is no try.
Disagree with the comments on the first three movies failing and being disappointments to Star Wars fans. I’ve listened to every book and enjoyed 1-3 immensely.
The new movies look good as well, love the cross guard. Would’ve been better if they had the ending fade to a black screen, then red eyes pop open, revealing blue skin and the white collar of Thrawn’s uniform.
I’m glad you enjoyed all the movies. My husband is a big fan of the book series as well, but also not a fan of 1-3. Each to his/her own. If everyone liked the same things then the world would be a boring place. 🙂
I am very excited about the new movies. And I agree, your ending for the trailer would have been amazing!
