I think that each and every one of us, as genre fans, has a soft-spot for anything with J.R.R. Tolkien’s name attached to it; and this certainly goes for the recent Middle-Earth movies.
Personally, I think that Peter Jackson’s versions of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have been pretty good adaptions of Tolkien’s work. No, they are not always faithful and sometimes they weave a bit too far on the side of ‘too boring’ or ‘too much action’, but I can’t imagine the films being done much better under another director.
That said, the actual movies’ scripts and the movie going experience is not my favourite part of the films. Rather, it is the the coming to life of the settings, characters and creatures that comes as a result of the World’s most tallented set designers, costume designers and special effects teams who have been given almost unlimited budgets.
Therefore, when I came across the following posters that have been released ahead of the film I HAD to share them. To see some of our favourite characters come alive in-front of our favourite settings is something I’ll never get bored of. Now, if only they’d make movie posters for The Painted Man, The Prince of Thorns, The Way of Kings, The Black Prism, The Dresden Files (decent ones), The Blade Itself, and so on I could die happy 😀
Anyway, forgive my going of on a tangent and rambling about movies that studios should hurry up and make… here’s the posters you came to see:
What do you guys reckon about these posters? What did you think about the first film? Are you excited about the second? 🙂
For those who missed it last week, there is also a 3 minute trailer of The Hobbit 2 available to watch here:

Quality.
Still concerned that they divided a relatively short book into three but we shall see…
Agreed. That said, the first film certainly didn’t feel drawn out or lacking in action – quite the opposite!
[…] now, if you thought the posters for The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug I posted up earlier were cool… wait until you see this. You know how Google has mapped out […]
