Ghost In The Shell Live Action Remake Not Far Off…

ghost_in_the_shellIn news that is likely to excite some and terrify many, DreamWorks have just announced that they’ve signed a director up to their live-action remake of Ghost In The Shell; Rupert Sanders (who directed Snow White And The Huntsman).

For those who haven’t heard of Ghost In The Shell before, it follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime. It is a groundbreaking, futuristic police thriller that was originally released as a Japanese manga before going on to be made into a movie-length anime and spin-off television series: Stand Alone Complex. It has often been gestured at as having influenced movies such as The Matrix.

From what we’ve heard, in addition to now having a director, the script is ready and, despite the producer already being signed up to a couple other movies, DreamWorks are pretty keen to get the ball rolling on this one… When you consider that the movie has been on DreamWork’s production line since at least 2009, this isn’t all too surprising I guess.

  1. Suddenly I’m envisaging the story of a weary Batou searching for his lost love. If 2014 is the year we get romantic remakes of GitS and 1984 I think I’ll go live in a cave now and save myself the heart-ache.

  2. It’s stuff like this that makes me want to hurry up and become a director/screenwriter already!!!! I’m missing out on all the good adaptations!!
