This coming Saturday, Fantasy-Faction’s founder Marc Aplin will be walking from Bristol to London (around 120 miles) non-stop to raise money and awareness for dog rescues across the United Kingdom. It is expected to take around 35 to 40 hours.
In the UK, around 50,000 dogs are given up as ‘unwanted’ each year. With our support, rescues can ensure these dogs get a second chance at life. Without it, a large inercentage of these dogs are at risk of being put down.
Over the past few months, Fantasy-Faction members have pledged well in excess of £1000 to Marc’s walk (bringing the combined total to around £2400), money which will be put towards helping dogs such those cared for by South West French Bulldog Rescue.
Pipkin came into the rescue partially blind and with part of an ear missing – the other is split too. Because he spent most of his life in a small cage, his joints were never strengthened and, as a result, is very weak. Pipkin’s biggest fear is humans. He wants to be loved and fussed, but just does not know how. He instantly flattens on the floor and rolls onto his back when someone approaches him. Picking his up terrifies him too, but there’s never, ever, any malice. The rescue is working with Pipkin, but there’s a lot of work to be done before he can be comfortable going to a new home….
Eve came in to rescue very suddenly with almost no history. All the rescue really knows about here is that she is approximately 6/7 months old and seems to be settling in very well with a fellow frenchie that she has been fostered with. She is currently being taught how to not toilet inside, but is otherwise very friendly and loving – she seems to be one of those adorable, loving dogs that leaves you completely method as to how she could be given up.
Kalila came in to the rescue dangerously underweight and with a very bad skin condition. She suffers with anxiety but lives happily with a pug, cat and children at the moment. Kalila is a chewer and needs constant distractions to stop her from destroying all the furniture! Antlers seem to be doing the trick for now… But she will need a home that understands her need to chew to relieve anxiety.
These are just three examples of the many hundreds of dogs this walk is hoping to raise money and awareness to support. If you can share this post or donate to the walk, it would be hugely appreciated. You can also join the 100 Miles, 100 Dogs Facebook group to keep up-to-date with my walk and also follow my progress on the day.
