Cover and protagonist details released for ‘Half the World’

Just yesterday we were talking about how Joe Abercrombie’s Half A King should easily have made Goodreads’ Best of 2014 Fantasy and/or Young Adult list – and we’re still holding out hope that it makes it in as part of the public write in stage. So, as you can imagine, we’re pretty excited for 2015’s Half the World. However, Joe has been particular secretive about how the series may progress.

When I saw him at London Film and Comic Convention a few months back he told me that the story would move forward in time a fair bit, so he could no longer follow Yarvi who would at this point be an adult. So, instead we’d be following a younger character in order to keep with ‘Young Adult’ conventions. It would be one we’ve not seen too much of.

Well, true to his word, Joe has written the following on his blog:

“Half The World is the story of Thorn, a young woman determined to take a man’s place as a warrior, who finds herself on the crew of the deep-cunning Father Yarvi, undertaking a dangerous voyage up the unmapped rivers of the world to seek allies against the numberless warriors of the High King. There’s love, hate, death, wit, vivid characters, crunching action and, yes, an awful lot of swords…”

Well, that has me pretty excited! I’m kind of hoping we find out a bit more about us, the Elves (you will know what I mean if you’ve read the book), and how the world came to be in the state it is in too… however, I guess I’d forgive Joe if he intends to keep that part of the world’s mystique…

Oh, and equally as cool, the UK cover has been revealed:

Half The World

It tells us that we’re going to be spending some more time on the high-seas and also lets us know that it’ll feature the same kind of claustrophobic danger as we experienced in the first book of the series. Aldo, comparing it to the American cover, this UK cover is very similar. It almost seems to have taken the US version, used it as a template and enhanced the detail.

What do you guys think? Like the covers for this series? Miss the maps?
