The following video is of New York Times Bestselling author Brandon Sanderon reading the opening chapter of a brand new and untitled novella set in the Cosmere.
What I really liked about this piece is that Brandon openly states that this is an example of him writing a world that he has only just envisioned and is still trying to work out. He says that he feels that perhaps in places he is over describing as he actively tries to shape his ideas and intends to go back and edit a fair amount of it. The reason I find this so intriguing is that I consider myself a student of the craft – getting the opportunity to see how a master at Worldbuilding and Magic Systems goes about shaping his world in the early stages and knowing that I will one day see an edited version of this piece and, therefore, be able to consider Sanderson’s editing process is an exciting prospect. As you heard at the start of the video, Brandon intends to write it after Firefight (the sequel to Steelheart), so we’ve got a while to wait yet, but it sounds great, right?
