Dr Who joins Daenerys in new Terminator Movie!

mattsmithterminatorMatt Smith, who many of you will know as the 11th Doctor, has been cast in the upcoming film “Terminator: Genesis”. Not too much about his role has been announced other than that ‘he will play a new character with a strong connection to the movie’s central character John Connor’.

During a question and answer session at Wizard World Minneapolis last weekend, the former Doctor said in response to a question: “The thing is, I’ve been implanted with a chip where, if I talk about it, my head explodes! All I can say about Terminator is that I’m very excited to be part of the Terminator franchise because those movies – those first two movies, particularly – are brilliant. Yeah, it’s very exciting.”

When asked about his first exposure to the Terminator franchise, Smith said that it went back to his youth: “It was the [James] Cameron movies,” ne said. “Anyone of our age has an affection for those films. It was like my childhood, seeing Arnold [Schwarzenegger] throw people from trucks.”

It seems that more and more television stars are making the step over to movies these days and it’ll be interesting to see how they do. I’ve seen a few movies with David Tenant, who I’m a big fan off, but I have to say that I’ve not felt him all that suited to the big screen. It’ll be interesting to see whether Matt Smith looks more comfortable.

Smith will join Emilia Clarke (who plays Daenerys in Game of Thrones), Jason Clarke (who stared in Lawless) and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, Dayo Okeniyi and Byung Hun Lee are also set to star.

Production only began last month, but the studio has confirmed the movie will be released in July 2015 – quite a turn around for a movie that we expect will be filled to the brim with special effects.
