Brandon Sanderson’s ‘Firefight’ Cover, Blurb & Release Date Revealed!

Fantasy-Faction really enjoyed Brandon Sanderson’s super-villain epic, Steelheart. In addition to Sanderson’s fantastic worldbuilding and cinematic writing, the story of average citizens rising up and administering justice as they see fit really appealed.

The book was marketed to a ‘YA audience’, but, as with most YA, it was picked up by readers of all ages and quickly became one of Brandon’s biggest hits to date, debuting #1 on the New York Times Young Adult Bestseller list. So, there has been a lot of anticipation for a sequel, and, despite all the authors other ongoing projects, it really isn’t far off. Yesterday the book was officially announced (along with confirmation that it was to be part of a trilogy) and the cover was put online too!

Here’s the cover followed by Firefight‘s blurb:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Words of Radiance, coauthor of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series, and creator of the internationally bestsellingMistborn trilogy, Brandon Sanderson presents the second book in the Reckonersseries: Firefight, the sequel to the #1 bestseller Steelheart.

They told David it was impossible–that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart–invincible, immortal, unconquerable–is dead. And he died by David’s hand.

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there’s no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David’s willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David’s heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic–Firefight.

And he’s willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

The book is due out on January 6th 2015. If you can’t wait until then, there is a novella – Mitosis – that links in with the series and it’s only right we point you towards the interview we did with him about the series too!

  1. I loved Steelheart cover but, firefight is letting me down. Regardless, I expect this book to blow me away like book 1 did.
