and the ever-inspiring Ori and the Wild Forest soundtrack.

I think I'm in love.  Such a great soundtrack!

I listen to epic soundtrack stuff like Two Steps from Hell.

Wow I just checked it out too... very haunting music.  I'll try doing my revisions tonight with this playing lol.

Ok, for the record that went terribly.  Got lost in youtube since my last post, didn't snap out of it until I somehow got from that video to this one:

The last time I smoked any of the good stuff was night befofre my wedding 30 yrs ago.

If you want to have music to listen AND have your internet off, there's this: http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiIhILVptTJAhUI9mMKHRT8D0IQFggbMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fclipgrab.org%2F&usg=AFQjCNHN5rYHjbQB8EPZCEqj1Q6ynsGYyg&bvm=bv.109395566,d.cGc

You can download music off the internet. I like CDs but sometimes I want some epic Pirate Music...  :P

I just use DownloadHelper for that.

I like my music to match the feel of what I'm writing if not necessarily the tempo.

High energy writing - Five Finger Death Punch, Slipknot, Machine Head.
Slower or more subdued - Apocalyptica, Draconian, or My Dying Bride.

I find I get a get a lot of ideas for my writing when I'm walking and listening to music.

Don't really have a music thread other than this one so it'll do!

While listening to the AC: Syndicate soundtrack made by Austin Wintory I stumbled on the soundtrack for The Banner Saga, an RPG I think, and wow the music is fantastic. He did Journey as well and is a hell of a composer :P

I very highly recommend.

I almost always listen to music while writing. It helps me focus. Generally, it has to be songs I already know. Otherwise, I'm paying too much attention to the music.

For epic fantasy, I love listening to power metal. Blind Guardian and Hammerfall are two of my favorites. When I'm really in the mood for cheesy fantasy-inspired music, I listen to Gloryhammer, which is pretty much a parody of the power metal genre (and a lot of fun to listen to). I also listen to a lot of Kamelot, which is kind of power metal crossed with symphonic metal and progressive metal. Their stuff, especially more recently, isn't as much fantasy-inspired as some of the others, but it still works well for me.

I love Blind Guardian. I'm going to have to check out the other bands you mentioned now.

Also, speaking of metal parodies that are actually awesome, I'd also recommend Dethklok (first two Deth Albums are great)

And Austrian Death Machine (metal songs about Schwarzenegger movies sung by a guy pretending to be Schwarzenegger). First song on their album is titled "Get to the Choppa!"

For some reason, I decided to wreck my brain by constantly listening to "Cleric Beast Extended OST" from Bloodborne.

Yes!

YES!!!  ;D

I actually have a rough plot for this. It's clearly the best track of the game.
