This is a book I was fascinated with during college.

She was becoming herself and daily casting aside that fictitious self which we assume like a garment with which to appear before the world.”
—Kate Chopin, “The Awakening”

But then,
Spoiler for Hiden:
The main character goes and swims into the sea to die, leaving her children behind, because she can't stand to be limited by convention. Mm. Artistic? maybe. Selfish? Oh, yeah.

A lot of these seem nonsensical or meaningless without the context of the book. I noticed I had a stronger connection to The Wuthering Heights quote just because I knew which characters it was in reference to, and I can't imagine "Stay gold, Ponyboy" means anything to those that haven't read the outsiders, haha.
