Beta readers sought
« on: April 12, 2017, 05:53:57 AM »
I'm looking for a couple people interested in reading my material in doses over the next few weeks.

Just in case you dread the responsibility of the writer relying on you finding their grammar and spelling errors, I am looking for impressions and opinions on content and execution. Any reader is welcome to dive as deep as they like, of course, but if that seems too time-consuming, that's cool, too.

The material is 95% to 100% free of errors and won't make you scream (often).

If anyone is on the fence, it's well worth the read.

If anyone is on the fence, it's well worth the read.

I can second that opinion. Gem Cutter has a unique personal first person story that will hook you from the first page.

I'm willing to give it a try. I think I can keep screaming to a minimum.

You should post the first paragraph. No one will be able to resist.

People wonder whether Kellithren was real, whether the stories surrounding my name were true. Tales of my deeds that I have heard are wildly wrong, giving me credit or blame for deeds that were not mine. Or at least, not mine alone. It is true that I was once Kellithren, the renowned Autumnal Wizard of the Wizardic Year, the Dream Glider, Warrior of the Bright Crossroads, Wielder of Thunder and Shadow, possessed of these and other names less flattering. It is also true that I was a great traitor, the greatest in the Year's long history, which goes back to when Ardialtis was young. This account will surprise those familiar with my reputation, for despite the infamy of my name, it was a wonder that I, Kellithren of the Year, became a wizard at all.

I'm an angel. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls, and from now till kingdom come, the only thing you can count on, in your existence, is never understanding why.

So as a Classic Pantser, I've been building two plotlines in the freeflow trance that I love, with the intention of integrating them. Earlier, I had everything in big chunks - studying sorcery ad infinatum followed by a trip full of intrigue and suspense. Now that I have actually turned to integrating the two - Holy Smokes there's a lot. A great problem to have, but still. If anyone has any early feedback, it would be helpful.

A writer who does not plot the novel out is said to be "flying by the seat of their pants", aka a "pantser"

I'll help out with reading if you need more opinions, GC. Might take me a while to crack on through though.
