Title: Wars of Light and Shadow Misc. thread
Post by: eclipse on February 09, 2016, 07:10:30 PM
I'm about 15% in at the minute, I should get further in at the weekend. I'm not finding this a struggle to read at all  ;D

Oh and @Eclipse (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9661), feel free to open discussion on the first couple of chapters when you are ready - I'm further ahead than you, but I will jump back to add some thoughts.  :)

Will Do  ;D

is that sarcasm or are you really not struggling? It is a little dense I suppose...

No sarcasm, Gardens of the Moon I found harder to get into to start with, I was bit surprised at all the DNF reviews who gave  up on Goodreads.

I can sort of understand it with Gardens but not to the extent where people go on and on about how difficult it is. It's not exactly James Joyce!

Also, have you guys mentioned this anywhere other than the misc thread for Malazan? I hadn't seen anything about it, and searched and saw it there. There might be others that don't read the Malazan discussions that might be interested. And apologies if you have, I could have easily missed it.

I have mentioned it but could be worth me doing a post on the main book board and whosoever wishes to can head over and join in when we get started proper.

End of chapter two and struggling a bit. Have only my commute to read it, which doesn't make it easier. Not giving up, though!

Just finished chapter 14, what a long chapter that was.

Just getting to chapter 5.
The prose is such a slog, though the story remains interesting.

Well, I tried. Maybe I could have tried harder, but I've hit my limit now that I find myself trying to understand the plot without actually reading the text.

I really like the idea of reading along the whole thing with you guys, but I'm out.
I'll have to get back to Gardens of the Moon. Hey, it would fit with my first book in a series tour, wouldn't it!

Good to hear someone liked it! I'm just not as fast a reader as you Eclipse and I'm not finding a load of time to read at the moment, but I'll still be adding my thoughts as I go. You are not alone!

About 40 pages to go until I'm at our first break. I'm coming around to see what you meant, Doug, when you compared it to Malazan. The beginning was way harder for me but now it flows and is becoming more and more interesting. :)

How far are you, @Idlewilder (http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13358)? Did I accidentally overtake you?

Hey guys, I'm so sorry I started this whole thing and then fluffed off into the ether and left you to it! I think I only got maybe a third of the way through and then I got laid off from work and didn't really feel very much like reading or doing much of anything for quite a while. I'd like to get back into the book though as I was personally really enjoying it and have really fond memories of the Malazan reread. I think when I was still taking part in this everyone else was a bit unsure of it - did the book get better for any of you in the end?  :) ( @Eclipse @xiagan )

I loved it, I'm up to date on the series just waiting for next book.

It's the darkest series I've ever had the pleasure to read.

I'm glad it wasn't a waste of time then!  :) That's enough of an endorsement for me, Eclipse.

Glad to see and read you again, Doug!

It was too dark for me and I'm not continuing after the first book. You'll find my rant in one of the other topics. ;)

You should totally read Dancer's Lament, though. :)
