Will I be there all alone?

I will be in town earlier if anyone fancies a coffee.

Oh OK and now its past office hours.

There were books and signings beer and very good onion rings and proper chips (Bath Gem and very fresh fried delights) Remember the Salamander in Bath if you are after good pub food just round the back of a book shop. I said Hi to Mark and Anna on your behalf and hit to Peter, Peter, Joe, Anna and Mark on mine as well as catching up with Marc briefly.

Q&A so the usual Waterstones format. Comfy chaired authors made them very hard to see to the crowd sat on higher school type hard chairs. Despite the lack of microphones they could be heard at least to halfway back and were interesting and witty in their replies. some exclusives were mentioned but I will leave the details of what was said to Marc.

Signing all 5 authors were seated at one table and while that probably made the queuing a little more chaotic  but a better atmosphere. I had an embarrassingly  large number of books for Mark to sign, four for Joe, none for Peter and Anna  and one for Peter. It took a while but got there in the end all signed and bagged again then off to the pub.

Marc had got us a room in The Salamander pub. Nice bar, good food and a few too many of us to fit but plenty of room downstairs as well on a Monday. No juke box to shout over but a lot of condensed conversation. The writers drank n mingled and got accosted by the usual wave of adoring fans keen to make fools of themselves.
Peter V Brett being mistaken for Branden Sanderson possible set a new all time low but made the rest of us feel so much better about saying stupid stuff. Natasha and Anne(?) were on hand to look after/protect the authors but almost never needed to rescue them.

So thanks to @Overlord for organizing and I think he will post something in due time to tell you all about the evening.

@Rostum Thank you very much, I did enjoy reading about that meeting, would have loved to be there, because I know that area all around Milsom Street very well. Worked in The Francis Hotel in Queen's Square next door, as a waitress, all late school and college holidays to earn enough spending money for next term.

The Salamander used to be a coffee bar, way back when they were the newest thing in the early 50's. It was the place to go when you were about fifteen and first allowed out with a friend in the evening  ::)  Because it wasn't a pub and parents didn't think a coffee bar could be bad.

Know that place so very well, does it still have tiny covered garden out the back? Bet it makes a great pub, it may have expanded a little, it was very small and cramped and to go upstairs a narrow windy staircase. Very excellent memories and fun flirtations, even though my curfew was 9.30 pm then. ;D

The Salamander is low lit wood paneled with understated decor. No jukebox, pool table or fruit machine, a grown ups pub. The beer was local and well kept and food freshly prepared the kitchen was open to view. There was a big coffee machine behind the bar and I would bet they squeeze there own orange juice. The Stairs are still windy and narrow sorry don't know about the garden probably a smoking area now.

I could see it being a coffee bar or possibly even a jazz club it is somewhere I will return to next time I am in bath.

Thanks for the write-up, Rostum - really wish I'd been there!

How embarrassing for the person who mistook Peter V Brett for Branden Sanderson! I imagine it's not the first time any of those famous authors have been mistaken for somebody else though.

Yeah, there was alcohol involved in that one.
