Thorn of Emberlain in July
« on: May 08, 2016, 09:04:28 PM »
Scott Lynch's The Thorn of Emberlain is coming out on July 21.

Did you guys know this?
I saw a card with the info in Waterstone's yesterday, and now I've remembered, checked amazon and it's true.
I have to admit not having read Republic of Thieves yet, though...

Unfortunately, Amazon is never a realiable source on release dates - they tend to slap something up there to have something up there and change it willy-nilly. I'd say the card in Waterstone's is a better indicator that it might actually be happening. (I haven't seen him say anything about it on social media, but that doesn't mean anything one way or t'other.)

Yes, I don't trust amazon much either, but if Waterstone's got it there I assumed it meant they had plans for orders, etc.

I mean, you can already pre-order on their site:
https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-thorn-of-emberlain/scott-lynch/9780575077058

And the Orion site also says the same date:
https://www.orionbooks.co.uk/books/detail.page?isbn=9780575077058

I have pre-ordered.  Which means it is doomed.  Have had Hanging Tree and Thorn of Emberlain on pre-order for ages, and both dates constantly change.  And just noticed Babylon's Ashes has moved back to November now.

Ooooh.

This means the new Lynch comes out 18 days after my birthday as well as new Saga coming out 2 days after it. I find it personally rude publishers don't schedule my favourite books around me.

It means you can ask people for book vouchers and say it's because the books you want haven't come out yet ;)

You'll be hoping for book vouchers then....but it's just virtual cake from here.

Sorry, but when did twitter become the paragon of truth? :o

Never, but if I see a post from Scott Lynch promoting the fourth book, then I'll know for sure that's when we're getting it. So far we're in May, and he hasn't even encouraged preorders. That tells me he doesn't think he'll meet the deadline. Even with the fastest turn around on books, it takes 3 months to get everything done so they can be published. So even if he says today that it's finally finished, we're probably looking at sometime this Fall.

His site says to look on his blog for news about Thorn of Emberlain, but the last post was in January and it wasn't book related at all. Believe it when I see it.

Don't think it will be out in July. Agree with others above, will wait until it is mentioned on Scott Lynch's own Twitter or blog. Happy to wait until he's ready, but Amazon sucks with this pre-order then changing date game.

@ScarletBea the actual fantasy authors who post regularly on Twitter keep you well up to date and advised about all their latest news, as well as interact with fans, chat and joke around.  From that point of view it is reliable. Otherwise, no, not a paragon of truth- loved that comment. ;D
