New Blue Rose game planned by Green Ronin
« on: March 25, 2015, 12:07:41 AM »
Blue Rose was released 10 years ago and to my knowledge the only serious commercial attempt at the Romantic Fantasy genre. While the idea behind the game was great, lots of people consider the implementation to be somewhat problematic and lacking. Which I agree with, as the game was using a rules system that was rather unsuited to the genre and it also tended to be presented in a rather naive black and white and heavy handed way when it came to adressing equality and inclusiveness.

But a lot has been learned in the last 10 years and RPGs as a whole have changed significantly, so there might be some real chance that they can do it better a second time now.

Not a fan of this announcement, but it's from one of the company managers and not one of the actual writers who make the game. There has been a lot of talk on the RPG.net forum about the game in the last weeks, both about examining the shortcomings of the original game and the possibilites of reviving and redesigning it, in which some of the designers from Green Ronin have been involved. So I am cautiously optimistic that the actual game will be handled a lot better.

The rules system for the game will be similar to the one for Green Ronins Dragon Age pen and paper game, which so far seems to be widely regarded a good choice. Which starts to make me wonder if the Dragon Age series might actually have been a somewhat muddier version of Romantic Fantasy the whole time?  :D
