I think between my husband and I and our friends we have almost all the versions of Munchkin. It came make for some interesting games when you start mixing and matching the sets.

It sure does. Our Cthulhu Spy Munchkin is a lot of fun. Russian Cultists everywhere!

I am really surprised I've never seen Cthulhu Munchkin as I think my friends have all the other versions.

We don't really play Munchkin anymore, it's just too random.  Arkham Horror and Dominion have both taken over that niche.

We also started playing Race for the Galaxy, which is a bit random, but a lot of fun.  Basically, random is okay as long as the game is relatively short, 30-45min.  If it's going to be long, like Munchkin often is, it better not be decided by randomness.

Okay, I have a confession to make:

I am a *total* Magic: The Gathering slut/addict.

Tell no-one.
(I think it's the artwork and the back stories that get me)

MTG is awesome, but way too expensive. I HIGHLY recommend the game 7 Wonders. Quick, fast, a mix of luck and skill, and pretty easy to learn. You can play 2 or 3 games of this for every game of Settlers of Catan. Roll through the ages is pretty fun as well but has even less interaction between players than the aforementioned games. Definitely check out 7 Wonders, it's highly ranked on boardgamegeek for a reason!

You know, I got into MtG with...er... Revised (I think?). Played for a few years. Quit. Sold everything. Promptly bought everything back. Played again for years. Then quit. Sold everything again. (Ok, except a card or two that I keep as good luck charms!)

That must've been over ten years ago. But I *still* get twitchy whenever I see someone playing. I can only guess that the game has totally changed, but, wow... that's one addictive mechanic.

Magic is a great game but a bit expensive to keep up. I was playing the online version last Fall and quickly spent too much money on it. I hear Richard Garfield has a new card game out that is aimed towards a younger age.

I also like the concept of Warhammer/40k. I love the models, strategy and the back story in these table top games, but that too is expensive to keep up with.

Try Elven Fire. It's a new game that got published last summer. Fantasy style, with lots of optional features (ability university, player-run stores) and some of the coolest dice options I've ever seen.

I'm a total MTG girl.

Spent a fortune on cards, just in the process of making a b/w aura deck which is expensive to say the least (daybreak coronet is over £15 for a single card!!)

Had a lot of cards 5 or so years ago, back during the kamigawa time (thereabouts at least) and recently gone back to it.
My 8yo has a red destruction deck that is pure evil, manthing has a few decks, a g/w token deck, white cleric deck, artifact and a handful of others. Girlchild has a b/w deck that's in the making.

Expensive, but fun :D

For card games, I love the concept of Living Card Games, where the cards you get aren't randomized, so you don't need to spend a gazillion dollars just to be competitive, you only need your brain and your effort. A friend and I have been playing one of those called Netrunner for quite some time. it's mind-boggingly good.

As for board games proper, the last few weeks we've been stuck playing Twilight Imperium, a massive behemoth for three to six players about conquering the galaxy. It's enormously long (around three hours for a three person game, and that when everyone knows the rules well), but also enormously satisfying.

hah. For the first time we played TI it took us five hours to set it up and play the first round. But yes, if you have time, it's great.

Risk. The Game.

Even when we know the rules, we take a good hour for each player. That's what happens when you try and take the Monopoly kids out of their place and try and show them a "new, less competitive" game. Suffice to say, I will never do that again. :)

I really love 7 Wonders. MtG is awesome, too, though I haven't bought any new cards recently. I also like Munchkin, and Risk, and Race for the Galaxy, Chaos in the Old World... I have a lot, suffice to say. I believe I have a more complete list in my thread that I started on a similar topic a few months ago; "Favorite Tabletop Games".
