Favorite Board Game or Card Game
« on: March 29, 2011, 06:47:27 PM »
Every Saturday my house is invaded by my siblings, my cousins, and my weird friends.  They come with stacks of boxes full of board games and card games, and it seems like every week they have a new one.  The favorites among them at the moment seem to be Arkham Horror, Dominion, and The Red Dragon Inn.  What are your favorites?  I'd love to find some new games before they do; it would make me feel more in the loop. :)

I LOVED Magic: The Gathering. I played that for about 4 years and had amassed over 5k cards. Then friends moved and stopped playing it, then I stopped. Then I got rid of all the cards.

Caylus and Notre Dame are my favorites, but people usually aren't in the mood to play them.  Arkham Horror and Dominion are indeed great ones.  Red Dragon Inn is good if you have the right sort of players (and we have the right sort).

(Note: I'm one of Autumn's wacky cousins ^_^)

I spent so much money on Magic cards...  I sold them to help pay for school, but part of me wishes I kept them.  I smack that part of me everytime it reappears. :)

I like Dominion and Arkham Horror.  Settlers of Catan is a classic, as well as Risk (and its derivatives).  I also love playing Fluxx and Lunch Money.

Ooo!  I haven't played Fluxx in years!  I wonder where it went to?  Hmm...I shall have to dig it up. :)

I enjoy the various versions of Munchkin. I especially like the board game version.

I played Magic for many many years--I quit right around when Alliance came out (just to show how old I am). Right now, my husband and I are creating a card game that parodies Magic. (Yes, this is what we do in our free time.)

Killer Bunnies is fun, as is Kill Dr. Lucky.

Lunch Money is awesome.

We play a lot of board and card games here. We have the D&D board games (Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashardalon), and Scrabble. :P We play quite a bit of Once Upon a Time, Man Bites Dog, and Munchkin. :)

Ooh I love Munchkin!  It's like D&D but now you have an excuse to powergame, kick down the door, kill the enemy, and snaff treasure.  It was created for people who don't like the roleplay, storyline aspect of D&D (NOT that I count myself one of their number, but sometimes it's fun just to kill stuff.)

Also play a lot of scrabble, Carcassone and Citadels.  A game we've just bought is called Lost Cities, which is good fun - you need to be able to card count on a very basic level, though.

Last time I got together with some RPG freinds we played a game - I think it was called Guillitine, not sure, but that was pretty good too.

We play Munchkin Cthulhu because, well, we're just weirder like that. Also, it gives us something to do while setting up Arkham Horror...

Battlestar Galactica is really fun - and I say that as someone who hated the show - but the game is a blast!

I like a card game these days called Summoner Wars. Very simple to learn, but a lot of different strategies to master!

Munchkin Cthulu?  Never heard of it, but it sounds good.  I'll have to look the next time I'm in our game shop.  Trouble is, I don't actually spend that much time looking at the board games.  I'm more into the D&D books (well, I was before they changed edition, again) and the fantasy-inspired jigsaw puzzles.

Civilisation the board game is absolutely epic - you'll need a whole day to play it.

There are so many types of Munchkin, it's crazy. The ones I've seen are Munckin Cthulu, Booty (Pirates, yay!), and Star Munchkin. All of the different versions can be found here at their site. :)
