On Contacting Reviewers
« on: April 16, 2016, 07:05:27 PM »
So I'm helping promote these two charity anthologies I'm a part of and I agreed to contact some people on the Indie Reviewer's list.

I've never contacted a reviewer before-- is there a certain protocol/etiquette I should use?  Do you send the AR right away, or do you wait to see if they're interested then send them the file?

I have no idea what I'm doing, any advice welcome.

@Arry is an official member of teh Grand Reviewers Guild.
Or would be, if it existed.

There was actually a very good post on this at Bookworm Blues this week:
http://www.bookwormblues.net/2016/04/13/guest-post-how-to-write-a-publicity-query-email-that-wont-get-you-blacklisted-by-bloggers-melanie-r-meadors/ O definitely to recommend reading :)

Key points: personalize the request a bit so they can tell you have at least looked at their blog. If you can't be bothered to do that there's a good chance they won't be bothered to take the time to read your book.

Make sure they read stuff similar to what you are submitting. You should be able to get a feel by looking at their blog. Also pay attention to anything they have written about what they do or do not accept for review.

As for including or not including the book in your request, I would lean towards don't include it. It will give you a better feel for who is interested.
