There's a reason Apple are giving Author away for free - they get their cut of every book you sell, so they want you to create content for them.

I would want to know the exact definition of "the Work" - if it just means the file output by Author, then it's not that big a deal, IMHO. Where else are you going to sell a book in the proprietary format sold in the iBook store? Does anywhere else stock them? I suspect not.

The solution: don't use Author. It's not necessary in order to make a book that's compatible with iBooks, as there are lots of pre-existing applications for creating epubs, including the very wonderful Scrivener.
