What Sci-Fi book are you currently reading?
« on: October 02, 2013, 08:47:45 AM »
Come share what Sci-Fi book you are currently reading :)

Right now, I'm about half way through Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. There are some things I really like about it but sometimes I also lose I interest a bit. Not sure why.

Soon (TM) to start Hydrogen Sonata by Iain Banks. It was featured at my favourite SFF bookshop so I thought, why not ...

For some reason i have yet to start the culture. But consider Phlebus is on my wishlist so ill be catching up pretty soon.

I am reading the reality dysfunction. A big turd, very good so far. Although i am wondering if i can get some sort of inside on the lose sexual morality that is displayed in.. every.. female character. I dont really get that, yet.

The story is getting in high gear now: plot oulines are forming clearly now(or not). The character introduction was elaborate but not boring at all. The wonders introduced in Hamilton's universe are awesome and wicked. The characters are clever, funny, ubbeat or psycho to the bone.

The first major clash between protagonists is coming and it how this will be.. man, i am curious!

Spoiler for Hiden:
I thought is saw fangs!

The reality dysfunction! So far a must read!

I wish I could say the same about Hydrogen Sonata. Still on it though.
The Culture series can be a bit of a hit-or-miss thing I understand. Haven't had much luck with my SF books lately =(

The Hydrogen Sonata as your 1st Culture novel? That's really a bad place to start. Start wwih Consider Phlebas, Player of Games or Use of Weapons. I am reading Ben Aaronvitch Remembrance of the Daleks.

No, Hydrogen Sonata isn't the first. I enjoyed Consider Phlebas, and Matter was sort of fun too. This on the other hand ... maybe it picks up a bit later ...

I'm reading 'The long earth', by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. I wanted to like it, but I just can't get into it... So, they're 2 english authors, but it's such an american book, it's putting me off.
I'll finish it, but I don't think I will bother with the next volume  :-\

Back to fantasy after this one... much better, hehe

I'm reading The Waking Engine by David Edison. His prose is amazingly descriptive and is a joy to read so far. And the story definitely has me intrigued at this point (about 60 pages into a 400 page book).

I just read Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi, and I absolutely adored it. Really fun, light read, but it also brings up some interesting questions of identity. Plus, fuzzies! Really just a ton of fun - classic Scalzi in that it's so entertaining, but also thought-provoking.

Recently I've been reading the Commonwealth Saga by Peter F. Hamilton. Now that is epic space opera.

My first post yay, just finished reading Fist of Demetrius (The Macharian Crusade) by William king (Warhammer 40k) good read but the ending seemed rushed with characters who had been mentioned through out the book suddenly being forgotten about.
