The group all extracted themselves from the melee now Conan was bashing the old dears. Though actually it looked like they were admiring his biceps and a few were now oiling him.
"Let's pillage some books!" snarled the captain.

The concert hall was an empty wreck of a place when JayMack woke from his dead faint. Torn out blue hair, wire-stay bras and corsets and false teeth with sharpened fangs were strewn about a parquet floor covered in blood and grandmothers.

Jaymack saw the doors at the far end just closing, and a glimpse of a tiger-dragonish tail heading into the library.

"Wait for me!" called the little king. He took three steps and keeled over.

He woke again to the feel of a sand-papery tongue licking his cheek. "Smug?" croaked JayMack mournfully. El Gato gave a brief meow. "Ah," said JM. "Lead on then. I need to catch up with the others before the Goat invents some new torture for me."

"Stole your Goatie or Goatee?" Scarlet was perplexed.

"Ook."

"Okay. How about Olde English? Forsooth, dear."

"Ook."

She shook her head. "Shit, this is getting us nowhere. Doc you have any ideas? Doc?" He was sharing a banana with the orangutan. "Doc."

"You can't just ask a stranger for help willy-nilly. You need to establish rapport." He took another bite from his yellow fruit.

The rest of the gang were held up in the paranormal romance urban fantasy section.  The captain was enjoying a romance fantasy about a pirate captain who stole the heart a treasure of a queen.  Henry was reading a sexy gritty re-imagining of a well known fairy tale, and A.R.Cane and Arcane were reading a tale of a school girl who romances fights vampires. Bob was reading dinosaur erotica dinosaur erotica.  Just then JayMack burst in with Smug.  "You layabouts! Stop sitting around reading, and let's find Scarlet and the Doc."
They were all tempted to ignore him, but then they remembered what he could do in a poorly ventilated room, and begrudgingly stashed their books in their knapsacks, and followed the king and his dragon stead deeper in the library.

Coupled with the death of Manilow at his hands and the coupon he had found in that book, AR Cane went from a level 9 kitty cat to a level 12 cane maniac, because the mini-boss bonus had come into effect. He asked Arcane what he should choose as his next perk as they went further into the bowels of this infinite library, but the duo came up short.

"I can still hit Tom Jones or Elfy for bonus xp!" Cap bellowed hanging from the side of one shelf.

"Or you can help us find Doc and Scarlet," Henry mumbled. "That works too."

SUDDENLY
a portal opened up in front of them, and out stepped a man in a straw hat, and a badger.

"BODGER!" squealed Henry.  "What are you doing here?"

"It's Mount Badger," gasped Bodger. "It's erupting!  You need to come now and help me save our family!"

Having had enough of the Doc chomping on his banana, the orangutan gave a big sigh and climbed to the highest shelf and began throwing down books. Scarlet scanned the titles to see if they were what she wanted. The pirate who circumnavigated Treasure Island in a coconut shell. The harpoon itself.  A Game of Pop Up Pirate. Talismans: Their powers and where to locate them. Lord of the Pirates. A Clash of Captains. A Storm of Harpoons. A Dance with Pirates. A Feast for Sharks. Ancillary Piracy.
"Nope Doc. We must be in the Pirates section. Nothing of any use here," Scarlet moaned.

Henry jumped into the portal, which inevitably closed behind him.

"Hehehe," a laugh cackled in the darkness.  "Now, Mr. Jiggles.  It is time to hinder their progress!"

They heard a faint singing that grew louder and louder, a melodious lullaby whose lyrics were but one word floating about their ears.  One by one, they drifted off to sleep, falling to the ground with a THUD.

"Hahahaha!"  A punk girl dashed out of the darkness.  "Now I have you!"

She withdrew a large red stamp labelled IDIOT and stamped each of their foreheads with the permanent red ink.  Then she rummaged their pockets, took their money, rid them of their pants, tied them in knots, and standing up, sighed, content with her work.

"Well done, Mr. Jiggles," she said, turning to face the Jigglypuff while turning her hearing aids back on.

"Jigglypuff," the pink animal chirped.  It withdrew its black marker and scribbled all over the company's faces.

"Now, let's sit back and see their humiliation when they awake!"

They darted back into the shadows, watching from a comfortable distance.

The team slowly got to their feet snd looked around them. They were on the mild slope of a tiny volcano that had risen up in the center of a school playground. The volcano was rumbling terribly. Bodger and Badger stood beside them, trying not to laugh.

"What's so funny?" asked Henry.

JayMack looked at the thief and started laughing. "You have the word IDIOT stamped in red on your forehead!" He started giggling hysterically. But hey, it had been a long couple of weeks for the little king.

Arcane laughed at them both. "You've been stamped, too. You both have."

But soon they realized that they'd all been frisked, thieved, stamped and scribbled. Jason and Kassin emerged from a shadow, completely pristine and unmolested. "You were Jigglypuffed, my firends," smirked Jason. "We shadow masters came away scott free, but you losers?"

"Can I please interrupt?" said Bodger. "I need help with this volcano."

The captain covered his head: "It gonna blow! Avast, mateys!"

Mashed potatoes spewed from the small mountain top and covered everything in sight. Especially Bodger and Badger.

"The end is nigh! The end is night!" screamed jungle lemurs as they bounded past the crew. "Hurry! Save yourselves. The world is going to blow. It's all over!" They did not look back to see if the group would follow.

All the party could do was scratch their heads; Kassin and *Justin studied the rumble, scientific pursuits and all that jazz. Most did not have a clue what was going on. It felt like a bad episode of Mister Roger's Neighborhood.

Meanwhile back in the library, Scarlet vowed vengeance for the theft of her goatie.
"Nmad uoy ydoolb taog!" She swore. The librarian covered his eyes but the doc looked kind of confused when Scarlet turned into a fire elemental and torched the section of books with less clothes.
The librarian quickly tossed a book down on her head, knocking her out. "How to kill a goat through meaningless quest" the title read. They'd found it! The book they were looking for!
Now to be reunited with the others...

The Doc picked up the pirate books as well for the captain. Camera lingers on Talismans: Their powers and where to locate them.

"How to take all this stuff, then? I'm not going to be a gentleman and carry them for you, you know", grumbled Doc.

"Oh don't be silly! When did I ever need a gentleman for *anything*?" Scarlet winked and opened her canvas bag. "Remember? No weight! Chuck them all in"

Doc started putting the books inside: the 'kill a goat' one, all the pirate books, and in-between, also the Talismans book. Maybe when they got back to the group someone would open their eye properly and find it useful... maybe Oggy...

"Crapazoids!" Elena cursed, stomping on the ground to relieve her frustration.  The stomping only made her feet hurt, however.

In the middle of the group's slumber, the party had disappeared and a small furry appeared.

"Blasted plot bunny again!  Mr. Jiggles, after it!"

They darted after the beast, but it was much quicker than they were.  Soon, it was out of sight, nowhere to be seen.

"Jigglypuff!"  Mr. Jiggles chirped in exhaustion.

"What do you mean you're already tired?" Elena said through her own panting.  She'd never admit she was out of it, too.  She may have been nimble, but running wasn't her thing.  Music, on the other hand, well, that was a different story.  And throwing sharp pointy objects.

"Jiggly-Jigglypuff!" the pink pudgy pokemon proclaimed.

"Whatever about your short, stubby legs!  Anyway, that may have ruined our fun, but we still have their money.  I'm in for an onsen.  What about you?"

"Jigglypuff!"

"We might even have enough for the fancy one up in the mountains," she said, counting the coins from one of the purses.

They marched off.  A good rest in a hot spring would ease her frustration and give her wandering mind ideas for the next surprise attack.  She just hoped no peeping Toms would appear at the hot spring, like in those blatantly sexist anime shows.  Creepy old men.  Those were the worst!

At the onsen, Elena sighed and slipped deeper into the hot, fragrant water of the bathhouse. She faded out a bit, drowsy and content. Something stirred next to her, and she opened her eyes. Five grey monkeys with red faces were lounging in the water beside her, and one had a rubber ducky. It started snowing. This is nice, she thought. But it occurred to her that the snowflakes seemed more like dried instant potatoes. Funny sort of volcanic ash, she thought, as sleep swept her down again.
