Everyone seems to have loved the sea battle, did you have to do a lot of research of navel-battles for that scene?

I had Military History as a subject for a whole semester at university, and since it focused a lot on Portugal, we studied quiet a bit about naval warfare. I learned all the nautical terms from there, and drew mainly from that experience.

Was the Shattered in the title a tribute to Joe Abercrombie Shattered Sea series as I know you a big fan of him  ;D

Haha it could've have been, but I only read my first ever Abercrombie after I finished writing Shattered Sands :P I originally thought of Sands of the Dead, but it gave too much away - Shattered Sands captures both the setting and the events that take place, as we see that Rilmaaqah is politically reshaped.

So What next?

Is book 2 Written? I am assuming it will be a trilogy?
I am holding off on reviewing on GR and Amazon at the moment but will do as time allows.

@Saraband: There's a moment very late in the book when the ambassador reminisces about learning the languages of trees and streams in his youth. This seemed to come out of nowhere a bit, and was quite interesting. What's going on there? Unless it's too spoilery.

This is related to his past as a religious hermit. It is never developed in Shattered Sands, but will be expanded on Book 2  ;)

Out there, somewhere, but still not quite ready to make an appearance...  ;)
