Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Re: Reading SFF is escapism
« on: February 24, 2020, 08:05:56 PM »
Those poor people who have never experienced the wonder of a good fantasy book. Living their grey lives, feeling the need to belittle something they don't know and don't understand.
But yes, "get fucked!" is another thing one could say, @cupiscent;D

I'm in one of those times I feel like life is slipping away and I could not do half the things I wanted to do before I die. Do you feel similar? Like you wasted your life and feel depressed...
You're raising two little kids. Of course you don't have time for all the other things you want to do. ;) But you're not old, it's to early to talk about having wasted your life.
It's possible that stress and sleep deprivation triggered a depressive episode. If it doesn't get better, try to fix stuff (even small things) that annoy you or stress you out. If that doesn't work and the feeling persists, get professional help.

Finished the Winter of the Witch, which is a great culmination of the trilogy and the best of the three books.
If you liked the Bear and the Nightingale, it gets only better and better from there on.

Finished The Girl in the Tower, the follow up to the Bear and the Nightingale. I enjoyed it as much if not more as the first book. It has a faster pace and more action. Will start The Winter of the Witch tomorrow.

Lawful evil and/or chaotic good. Strange combination.

I liked all the stories  with different takes on time but felt there were way too short I would have liked to see at least one average sized short. I really wanted the reincarnation story to last a bit longer.
Thanks! Cool, that you liked them. :) Maybe I'll write longer versions when the kids are grown and I have time. ;)

Reading Fictional Times-A fabulous anthology of Wondrous stories

By Christian Karl Abresch

Anyone heard of him ?  ;)

Spoiler for Hiden:
how can you do that Father Christmas
Haha, I meant to read it myself to see how good it holds up nowadays - I wrote the stories in 2010/11...

I'm curious to hear what you liked/didn't like. :)

I just began a reread of Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson. I forgot that I bought the rest of the era's series but never got to them. Hope to tear through the first one again and finish the last two in short order. Fell behind in my reading in the past year because of my writing, but I like to try and balance the two. It's nice to start back with something familiar and work my way into the newer stuff.
If I'm not mistaken it won't be a trilogy but four books in that era and the last one will be released end of this year or next year.

I haven't answered yet because I don't have the time to do it properly atm (renovating our home, my oldest has his fifth birthday tomorrow, ...) but I'm reading everything and it's cool to see so many replies. :)

Monthly Writing Contest / Re: Contest Theme Ideas
« on: February 07, 2020, 04:34:13 PM »
While I really like the topic (and when I wrote short stories myself, most had some kind of unexpected revelation/perspective change in the end), I'm not so keen on repeating themes as long as we have other cool ideas we haven't done before.

But yes, it has been five years, so we probably could do it again - when we have figured out how to proceed with the contest (no fan fiction, Nora, promise! ;)).

(that's also why I haven't read Becky Chambers, even though many people have said I'd really like it...)
You definitely will really like Chambers' books.
