*contented sigh*
And it's not even someone's birthday ;D

...
Well, here. I'm sure it's someone's birthday somewhere. It must be. Wouldn't it be weird, to have one day of the year when no one was born?

Good luck, Chilly!!! 8)

hehehe Lady Ty

they felt a bit weak in comparison to GOK, which I read just before them.
This fits neatly into my 'right books at wrong time' premise, just a different take on that. The 'wrong time' can also be created by the other books you read close to a particular one...

I am so loving Temeraire! It's exactly the right story for me at the moment (Lady Ty, have you read it? You will love it ;D)

 >:(
I understand that you have to pay attention to that, Francis, being a writer and having to do your best to get more readers.

As for me, I prefer to go through life pretending these morons don't exist... ::)

I think Lady Ty got speechless ;D

I'll keep quiet music-wise hehe, I don't care that much nowadays anyway, but have always preferred indie/rock/contemporary.

I have no idea what a mary sue is, so I can't really answer you.

This is one of my favourite books ever, but it's very personal.
Mark's writing is close to perfect, and touches bits that should be deeply hidden ;D

Just what makes you say that what Jorg does isn't possible, and that others couldn't do it? Nothing indicates that...

I just discovered that a few settings were filmed near me, in a small stately home owned by the Council (I haven't been to visit this one, actually) :)

Oh Nora :D
I *am* that dragon (annoyingly picky with grammar).
Especially the last pic - I've got Oreo icecream and I'm finally getting my appetite back ;D

I suppose I do need to go turn on my work laptop and do something workwise ::)
Took a while to get out of bed this morning...

That conversation about flexi-time guilt we had before, no way out but go with the flow now ;D

I may not remember everything properly, but:

book 1 - starts with normal 'chosen boy, gets into special place, middle of things he doesn't understand
book 2 - basically one city closed setting, everyone converges there, quite claustrophobic, we see hints of the bigger (huger) picture out there
book 3 - everything explodes, even more events and characters, amazing ending and feels like nothing can come out of here
book 4 - hints of Milton and Dante, paradise and hell, big
book 5 - true epic ending, twisting everything in its head

 :D

Hi and welcome!

You found a great place here, so explore and post to your heart's content, and don't mind bringing old threads to life.

And take a look at the monthly writing contest, it might be a good place for you to practice some more writing.

All good people here :D

That's good to know.

 ;D I like the style!

These books were already in my wishlist, now my decision is: do I read the first 2 now, and wait for the others, or do I wait for the 4 to be published before reading them all? It seems he doesn't really need my purchases to get a deal anymore hehe

And yes, a 6-figure deal is great, and sounds amazing, but as you included in the comment, it could be just £33k/year/book, and this is gross (lots of deductions still to come...). And I don't think you get it all in one go/per year, the publishers might just drag it along in bits and pieces, so I do hope they have some extra support while writing :)

*grumble grumble*
I'm not liking the 'social media' buttons on each first post of each thread...
Can't we have a 'social media-free zone' here on the forums? It's hard enough to find that nowadays, must we leave the net altogether for that? :-\
*grumble grumble*

(at least I've only just noticed them... I'm not seeing things, am I?)

Hi Titus, I find that series amazing, and it definitely improves a lot.
As it progresses, the books are more different and different to what you expect 'as normal'.

Yes, there are many characters, and at times it feels confusing, but hold on and I promise (hope?) you will enjoy.

I thought the last 2 books were quite good, very different from the direction that was expected/indicated on book 1 - 'epic' in the usual sense of the word.
I read 1-4 one after the other, and then had to wait a few months for 5, it was quite hard.
My favourite though is book 2: the containment of Scree, all the expectation.

It's a series I do plan to re-read sooner or later, actually.
