Writers' Corner / Re: Wattpad
« on: March 15, 2019, 12:13:15 AM »
Does Wattpad have some glaring flaw I'm not aware of?

It obviously works for some. The most glaring flaw I'm aware of is the 400+ million stories uploaded to it, and this is the main reason I've not bothered with it.

My experience through wattpad was a as a reader/browser and I've officially written off this website entirely as being trash. I'm probably being unfair because I could maybe find good content if I dug and searched especially for it but, what I find glaring is that the best voted and best read stories tend to be awful, poorly written teen at its worst. Lots of smut and fanfic too. Lots of fanfic smut.
I just... I just never read a good thing on wattsap, and I have a feeling that Mark Lawrence gets to do that because we'd read his work on toilet paper anyway.
I mean, 4.6M reads here : https://www.wattpad.com/story/81539148-babysitting-the-bad-boy
And 7.4M reads there : https://www.wattpad.com/story/47260925-the-vampire-king
And these have somewhat correct english in their descriptions! Not always the case even in stuff with millions of reads.

I'm just carrying my point of view however, and as I said it's very biased because I browsed what's popular on wattpad, and not tried to search small works. But overall I feel like quality work is drowned in there and unless you know the person publishes there, there is no incentive at all for me to slog through it in search of good content.

Only my honest feeling about the website. Of course it's a good system to go with episodic publication if you don't have your own website! But like I said, maybe more if you already have a following?

I really like this theme. And already settled on an idea. Lovely, given the struggles of the last two months' themes  :o :P

Now just need to find time to write it  :)

same. got the wheel all sorted and the first 100 words or so inked down, but whether I'll manage to banish my demons and actually write anything in time is up in the air.

Sorry @ScarletBea I've had a nightmare weekend. Buying a new phone swallowed the whole two days, plus a fair bit of inescapable socialising (friend bday, work meeting....) and in the end I fell way behind on word count. Even got late to work today. I'm a mess. Forgot to message last night that I wasn't making it. Sorry  :'(

Ah amazing! I projected my own thinking there.
I'm working on poor Cinder's story and really need to finish it, I've been so lazy! But I work 9h tomorrow so... weekend it is!

5
Aww, so no special extension for this short month? I can only make it if I can write during the weekend. Been pretty rough at work at the moment. Story only half done.

6
Since Goodreads includes the mangas I read, I'm setting a goal of 200 and hope to struggle more than last year. Last year I cruised by my 100 mark because I was a lot more thorough reporting what I'd read.

7
Ah well if we don't have to steal someones's world and can twist popular character of fairytales that's a different deal. I can definitely give a shot to my boy Cinder.

8
Oh no! I thought it would be a reversion of gender roles or even body swapping, but it's low key fanfic again xD
Not sure I'll participate, I really can't get my mojo on to write in someone else's world, sorry.

Welcome Limey!
Glad you're taking the jump. We'll have you write something in no time!

Here to give my

Guy is legit. He helps me a lot when we play online too and will zoom past me and then say I'm such a good player. Knows how to word a compliment  :P
Surely can make up just as compelling stories. Curious to chat more about books too.

No it's ok. I don't need a brainstorm, I don't necessarily struggle with coming up with ideas, I struggle with getting the motivation to bother writing them.

Sadly not an accurate depiction of my feelings regarding writing at the moment, and no inspiration regarding air so far, but it's nice to live parallel lives that seem this comfy.

[JAN 2019] Air / Re: [Jan 2019] - AIR - Discussion Thread

I won water, and I don't think I was around for fire, so I feel some self inflicted pressure to make this a good one...

I'm sorry but I got quite depressed, so I haven't written my story down enough to make this viable. It was a pretty twisted story though, so no loss I guess.

[NOV 2018] Image Prompt: Ships / Re: [Nov 2018] - Ships - Voting Thread
« on: January 02, 2019, 01:12:03 AM »
And I strike again, voting for the top runners!

Thanks @Carter for your vote. I also voted for you, but when I said was story was great but left me utterly confused, it's you I meant!
Is the MC a deep forest agent? Did she remotely doom the ships? Or is the goal for the forest to follow the humans? Or is she actually good and I totally misunderstood her actions? Please tell me!!

Alex, I loved the twist ending. Not surprising per say, but very satisfying and visually pleasing, in my mind's eye.
