Hello Nora (ou bonjour Nora)
That sounds like a very interesting life you have.
I still have to visit Australia some day >.>
Anyway, welcome to Fantasy Faction. You will definitely find what you have been looking for here.
10k words is already an impressive amount to start from so keep up the good work! (Or slack off like some no  people among us)
Enjoy your stay!

I haven't been writing in a while (as in a week now).
Then again, people are reading the first version of my only recently version and I'm waiting for their reviews/edits. Bad excuse >.>

Like the title says. A new theme park is opening in Calais, France in 2018 with some attractions based on the works of Jules Verne and JRR Tolkien.

Writers' Corner / Re: The Absurdity of English in Other Worlds Fantasy
« on: March 12, 2015, 05:22:05 PM »
English? What is this English you speak of? Did you mean Common Speech?

As a non-English person, I have read quite a lot of books in multiple languages and I must say there are some really good translations out there. In some cases (not gonna name things) translators may even surpass the original writing quality of a piece. As for the Man in the Moon poem from Tolkien that was simply translated and arranged a bit to keep it poetic.

That sucks, I loved his Discworld, it was so joyfully chaotic. T.T

Don't watch the original fullmetal alchemist, watch Brotherhood instead, that follows the original manga closer.
I loved Mushishi (that atmosphere!) and Spice and Wolf (cute ^^).
Atm watching Death Parade (recommend it, though not traditional fantasy, more supernatural) and Legend of the Galactic Heroes (an old space opera with over 100 characters).

Good health to you too and welcome to fantasy faction :-)
The only book I read on maori that was sff genre was a sci-fi novel Cloud Atlas where they were post-apocalyptic survivors (For lazy people there's a film) so I'm definitely interested in your angle.
I'll read your prologue later today ^^

I actually just finished writing the first version of my novel 2 days ago...
Now to torment everyone I know into reading it and fishing out the no doubt myriad of grammar and spelling mistakes + plot holes.
Suddenly people lose interest when you ask them to actually read the 190 page (A4) monstrosity you've been working on for all this time :p
Brilliant! I can only hope I can say this a few months ago.

First time anyone's actually reading the thing, so I'm kinda curious as to the reactions. Waiting weeks till people finish >.<

You'll get there yourself, just keep going!

Meh, there's too much repetition in the world to change everything every time there's a duplicate. If by chance my characters were named Michael Jackson, then maybe I would consider the change, but otherwise, there's too much out there, you're bound to repeat something at some point.

This, so much. You can't possibly know everything about everything, which is the reason disclaimers exist. Just make sure it's not too much the same (like making Riften a forest city where a large battle took place in the north) and it's fine :p

Welcome to FF!
Thank god for the internet on which physical boundaries dissipate and you find many people who like the same things you do (In this case fantasy and sci-fi).
Enjoy your stay ^^
