Other than comic books the first fantasy novel I read was the Crystal Cave by Mary Stewart, it was read for inspiration for an art project in school all those years back, and was followed up a few years later by Tom Holts Faust Among Equals,.  I didn't read another book then till Eragon was released and haven't stopped since.

Check out Terry Brooks The Elfstones of Shannara it features the The Ellcrys, the tree of long-lost Elven magic, not sure if this is the book your thinking of.

Has to be a proper solid physical book, I love looking across the shelves and down the spines of the books, reading the titles and remembering where I have been and looking where to go next.

I have bought a few books for my iPad but I need the feel and smell of that new book, it's all part of the experience for me.

Most likely common knowledge but I just found out Wally West is back in the DC universe, think it's time to start reading Flash again.

My first post yay, just finished reading Fist of Demetrius (The Macharian Crusade) by William king (Warhammer 40k) good read but the ending seemed rushed with characters who had been mentioned through out the book suddenly being forgotten about.
