Table Top & RPG Games / Periergía - a science fantasy tabletop rpg
« on: August 23, 2018, 08:54:15 AM »
Hey everyone  :)

The last couple of months I've been working on a tabletop rpg called Periergía. It's a system I crafted that has a great focus on theatre of the mind and I tried to make it very easy to get into.

People who are interested should definitely reply here or pm me  :D

Name: Periergía
Genre: Science Fantasy
Form: mostly theatre of the mind with some map crawl
Number crunch: light
Dice: single d20
Platform: Discord text (either direct or pbp format depending on time zones/availability)

I'm always open to GM for more players who either want to play together or who want to play single player campaigns.

At the moment I am open for subscriptions to my summer event as well.

General Discussion / EU Roaming Cancelled
« on: May 15, 2017, 09:45:29 AM »
With the tariffs for roaming in the EU being cancelled I got a bit confused as to which countries are participating.
A lot of sources on the net are contradicting each other.

Is the UK included? (or the commonwealth by extension? Brexit Ho!)
Switzerland? (probly not?)
All those other border nations?

It seems my provider just answered me with a list.
For people interested (in dutch, sorry guys am on phone):

 Cyprus (zuidelijk deel)
 Tsjechische Republiek
 San Marino
Canarische Eilanden
 Verenigd Koninkrijk

General Discussion / The Fantasy Faction Food Thread
« on: June 02, 2016, 06:33:47 PM »
Gather round culinary geniuses and food afficionados.  :D

Are you, like Henry the Jack, an abominable master chef?
Perhaps you're like ScarletBea and you just die inside when you are exposed to another flurry of food porn images?
Are you weird like m3mnoch and you eat ice cream with a spoon?

Then look no further! Throw those food porn images here to make your friends hungry. Give us the recipe of your latest alchemical concoction. Or just enjoy all the goody yummies being spread out before you.

The secret to fluffy waffles
I'll start with a simple one. Are your waffles heavy? Would you rather have them nice, fluffy and light?
Add a bit of soda water to your batter.

General Discussion / Conan's day off - a choose your own adventure
« on: February 29, 2016, 09:30:31 AM »
Got some positive reactions from friends so I'll throw this outside the writing group too for reactions. Download the html and run it to play.

For those who are unfamiliar, it's part of the Henry the Jack adventures, something that has been building up here on F-F.

Conan has a day off in Belgarium, but he has gotten himself lost.
Can he find his way back to the harbour in time to catch his ship?
You might meet a familiar face or two in this little choose your own adventure!

It was made with the online program twinery.

Ps. Is this the right section? I'm not really looking for critiques, just reactions. Correct me if I'm wrong ^^

[NOV 2015] Mighty Beasts / [NOV 2015] Mighty Beasts - Critique Thread
« on: January 02, 2016, 11:07:17 AM »
Somehow there was a lot of talk about it but no thread so here it is:

So here is the possibility to get critiques for your stories entered in our writing contest - and to give critique as well.

If everybody wants and gives critique, this thread will be pure chaos soon, while 2-3 critiques for as many stories shouldn't be a problem. We'll see how it goes and adapt if necessary.

So what we're doing is this:
1. Everybody who wants critique for his story posts in here.*
2. Everybody who wants to do a critique for a specific story (whose writer has asked for critique) posts it in here.

IF this thread is overrun fast, I'm splitting it so that every story has it's own one to avoid confusion.

* I know that critique isn't always easy to handle, especially if you are not used to it. So if you feel more comfortable receiving it in private, people can send it via pm. They can post here that they sent a critique via pm so that others know about it.

At the moment I don't think it necessary that we create a system balancing given/received critiques. However, if it turns out to be unfair and some people are giving critiques without receiving some (or the other way round) we have to add one.

Basic rules for critiquing:

This is just a small guideline for those that haven't done critiques before, stolen from this forum's writing section.

Critiquing Other’s Work
    1. Please read what the poster is asking for before you post your critique.
    2. Critique the writing, not the writer.  Never, “You are...” or “You should...” but rather, “The writing is...” or “The story should...”
    3. We all have different levels of writing ability here, keep that in mind when critiquing.
    4. Find what is right in each piece as well as what is wrong.
    5. Remember that subject matter is personal. You don't have to like a story to give it a fair critique.
    6. Remember what your biases are and critique around them.
    7. Remember that real people wrote this stuff, and real people have real feelings. Things you may not say while critiquing: “That’s awful.” “That’s stupid.” “You couldn’t write your way out of a paper bag.”

Bring it on @Nora ::)

General Discussion / I'm one bad-ass Valheru now 8)
« on: December 07, 2015, 11:39:18 AM »
800 posts and my influence spreads.
Henry is the talk of town so someone should shut him up soon.
But let him revel in being a dragon lord just for this bit.  :P

Fantasy Movies, Comic Books & Video Games / Christopher Lee died
« on: June 11, 2015, 03:26:35 PM »
Christopher Lee, known to many as Saruman the wise, died last Sunday.
We also know him from the many other films and games that he lent himself to.
We're talking about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, the Last Unicorn, Kingdom Hearts and many many more.

Rest in Peace, Christopher Lee

Yay! So british!:p
Anyone else excited?

Writers' Corner / The Worldbuilder Herald
« on: March 20, 2015, 12:32:47 PM »
This is somewhat a writing prompt, but also a place for discussion or critique.
Write a news article about a part of/event in your world(s) as if it were for a newspaper. Then give feedback or comment on the other pieces. As an example:

Simon Asher accused of necromancy!
Barge Hold -
Yesterday evening late, lord Asher was arrested at his estate near Barge Hold after several parties had expressed their concern regarding strange noises coming from his home.

Lord Asher was to run for the position of mayor later this year. His opposition informed us that they regret to see such a fine man fallen so low.
While Asher was indeed a highly esteemed member of society, once a member of the admiraldiers, none of his neighbours seem surprised. Asher was a retired man after operation Magi and spent a lot of time by himself.

At the moment of writing, peacekeepers are running through his manse in search of evidence of the forbidden southern magic.

Interviews on page 3.

Like the title says. A new theme park is opening in Calais, France in 2018 with some attractions based on the works of Jules Verne and JRR Tolkien.

Writers' Corner / How do you keep your worldbuilding orderly?
« on: January 20, 2015, 08:31:41 PM »
Just being curious here.
When worldbuilding, how do you go about sorting all your notes?
Is it pure chaos or do you have a system?
Do you store it on paper, on your pc or on the web?
What would you recommend to others and do you have tips and tricks?

Introductions / just another hey I'm new!
« on: January 19, 2015, 12:17:46 PM »
Hi, I'm Henry Dale, 23 at time of writing.
When I was young (I know...23 is young too ^^') I devoured a lot of fantasy. The wheel of time, Harry Potter, jonathan Strange...
All of them succumbed to my reading eyes.
I speak English, French, Dutch, German and a tad of Spanish so I always try to read in the original languages.
At the moment I'm writing my first ever long novel so wish me luck.

I found fantasy faction while browsing the fantasy reddit in search of new books to read. I love the wonderful content about worldbuilding.

Hobbies include reading, writing, travelling and an occasional video game.

For the people who skipped the wall of text: hey!
