Open For Submissions / Angry Robot Open Submissions May 2019
« on: April 08, 2019, 09:43:35 AM »

"So, about that news we told you was coming... Now that our new editor is in house, we're thrilled to announce that our doors will be open for submissions for the entire month of May! Details to follow. You may begin praising our merciful Overlord."

So Amazon UK, in their arcane and unknowable wisdom, have put The Traitor God up as one their 'Deal of The Day' promotions on Kindle, setting the price at 99p for 24 hours.  At the moment it has a swish Best Seller badge because it's the #1 selling book in several categories  :o

Sci-Fi, Horror, YA & Urban Fantasy Books / Alex Verus series
« on: October 17, 2018, 12:40:31 PM »
Has anybody else been reading the Alex Verus urban fantasy books by Benedict Jacka? I found this series earlier in the year and I've devoured the entire 9-book series to date. It's very moreish and stands up well to the likes of The Dresden Files.

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Dragon Awards 2018
« on: July 09, 2018, 07:00:35 PM »
Have any of you voted in The Dragon Awards nominations this year?

Such a tough year voting for favorite novels, TV and film since there has been so much goodness out (like The Traitor God :p  )
I had particular problems with picking a film and game this year.

Anybody thinking of heading along to this year's Eastercon?  Follycon in Harrogate 30th March-2nd April. The guests of Honour will be Kieron Gillen, Christina Lake, Nnedi Okorafor and Kim Stanley Robinson.

I'll be there, probably at the bar :)

Fantasy Movies, Comic Books & Video Games / Star Trek Discovery
« on: November 22, 2017, 06:06:54 AM »
I'm surprised there is not a thread on this yet.

Anybody else been watching Star Trek Discovery? I was not impressed with the first two episodes but it has really grown on me, and after the mid-season finale I really want to find out where it is going. Jason Isaacs makes for a great captain.

What We Want To See
Adventure fantasy with heroes you want to root for. Warriors either modern or medieval, who solve problems with their wits or with their weapons--and we have nothing against dragons, elves, dwarves, castles under siege, urban fantasy, damsels in distress, or damsels who inflict distress.

What We Don't Want To See
Political drama with no action, angst-ridden teens pining over vampire lovers, religious allegory, novel segments, your gaming adventure transcript, anything set in any universe not your own, “it was all a dream” endings, or screenplays.

Entries will be judged by Baen editors and the award will be presented by New York Times bestselling author Larry Correia.

The GRAND PRIZE winner will be published as the featured story on the Baen Books main website and paid at industry-standard rates for professional story submittals. The author will also receive a handsome engraved award and a prize package containing $500 of free Baen Books.
SECOND place winner will receive a prize package containing $500 of free Baen Books and-THIRD will receive a prize package containing $300 of free Baen Books.
