Sci-Fi, Horror, YA & Urban Fantasy Books / Alex Verus series
« on: October 17, 2018, 12:40:31 PM »
Has anybody else been reading the Alex Verus urban fantasy books by Benedict Jacka? I found this series earlier in the year and I've devoured the entire 9-book series to date. It's very moreish and stands up well to the likes of The Dresden Files.

« on: July 09, 2018, 07:00:35 PM »
Have any of you voted in The Dragon Awards nominations this year?
http://application.dragoncon.org/dc_fan_awards_nominations.php

Such a tough year voting for favorite novels, TV and film since there has been so much goodness out (like The Traitor God :p  )
I had particular problems with picking a film and game this year.

« on: November 22, 2017, 06:06:54 AM »
I'm surprised there is not a thread on this yet.

Anybody else been watching Star Trek Discovery? I was not impressed with the first two episodes but it has really grown on me, and after the mid-season finale I really want to find out where it is going. Jason Isaacs makes for a great captain.

What We Want To See
Adventure fantasy with heroes you want to root for. Warriors either modern or medieval, who solve problems with their wits or with their weapons--and we have nothing against dragons, elves, dwarves, castles under siege, urban fantasy, damsels in distress, or damsels who inflict distress.

What We Don't Want To See
Political drama with no action, angst-ridden teens pining over vampire lovers, religious allegory, novel segments, your gaming adventure transcript, anything set in any universe not your own, “it was all a dream” endings, or screenplays.

Judges
Entries will be judged by Baen editors and the award will be presented by New York Times bestselling author Larry Correia.

Prizes
The GRAND PRIZE winner will be published as the featured story on the Baen Books main website and paid at industry-standard rates for professional story submittals. The author will also receive a handsome engraved award and a prize package containing $500 of free Baen Books.
SECOND place winner will receive a prize package containing $500 of free Baen Books and-THIRD will receive a prize package containing $300 of free Baen Books.
