Writers' Corner / How to abandon a story?
« on: February 12, 2015, 12:26:53 AM »
So there's this big idea that you've laboured on for years, characters, a world, a plot that you're incredibly attached to. You have pages and pages of notes and scenes and outlines and reference materials. It's your baby.

And it's not working. You know, deep down, that it's time for a clean slate. You want to come back to it someday but somehow it's just not... ripe yet,  and years of toil haven't made it so. You need to step back and let it simmer. How do you get the story out of your head? How do you start something new without it just turning into a rehash of The Idea you're trying to take a break from?

I'm finding "murder your darlings" to be much easier said than done.

Stumbled across the place putting various terms like 'writer' and 'fantasy' into Tapatalk searches. Liking what I've seen so far, so I figured I'd say hello. :)
