Introductions / I'm back!
« on: February 19, 2014, 08:42:21 PM »
Hi all!

It's been quite a while, but due to popular demand (possibly) I'm back.

Looking forward to delving back into the forums again!

Non-Fantasy Books / Shogun!
« on: March 17, 2013, 11:08:59 PM »
I saw Jian had started reading this earlier, and since it's in my top 3 books of any genre I thought I'd see if anyone else has read it.

I've long been a fan of the Samurai culture and lapped up books like 'Musashi', The Bushido Code' and 'Taiko', so when I was about 18 my dad gave me a very battered and dog eared copy of Shogun. That copy is still on my shelf, and I think I've read it 6 or 7 times in the decade since then.

General Discussion / Is Myke Cole the new Brandenbot?
« on: March 01, 2013, 03:29:40 PM »
Have you seen how fast Myke is writing? He's only just released his second book and he's already submitted the final draft of his third and is about 40K words into his fourth!!

So, what should his nickname be? Myke-anichal Cole?

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / What do you most look for in Fantasy?
« on: November 07, 2012, 10:10:46 PM »
After yet another highly intellectual and not at all geeky discussion on twitter, we thought it would be good to have a topic about what you look for in fantasy.

For me, I'm a massive fan of entertaining, well thought out magic systems. If they are crafted well, with good restrictions and penalties for overuse, I think they add so much to the story. It's for this reason I prefer someone like Sanderson over Abercrombie, who uses little magic.

What say you? Is it the magic that draws you in? Do well designed worlds captivate you?

Hi all,

Is anyone here a member of the BFS?

I'd like to join, but it doesn't sound like you get an awful lot for your money. I can get great reviews/reccomendations from this site and the conversation is usually quite good as well. :)

I know you need to be a member of BFS in order to get Fantasycon tickets, but is there more to it than that and the quarterly magazine?

Cheers guys,
