Writers' Corner / The efficacy of Wattpad
« on: June 30, 2015, 11:43:17 AM »
Just wondering peoples thoughts on using Wattpad to gain an audience and get feedback. Is it natural to worry that someone will steal your writing? Also if thre other similar sites/apps feel free to include them. Been considering posting some of my short stories there to get a feel for reactions and audience.

Sci-Fi, Horror, YA & Urban Fantasy Books / Hyperion?
« on: June 11, 2015, 08:55:04 AM »
No this doesnt pertain to the news of it being adapted into a tv series. This has to with the book. Im not really a reader of scifi, prefermainly fantasy, in most of its forms. But I have seen Hyperion nearly every time I go to a bookstore. Saw it in Powells, saw it at half price books.  Just looking to see if it would be enjoyable to a primarily fantasy fan or not. Any thoughts on the series?

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Thoughts on the Long Price Quartet?
« on: April 29, 2015, 09:58:59 AM »
Likes. Dislikes. About a hundred pages into the first book, and although it intrigues me, it is a lot of names/info very quickly. Heard a lot of good things about it, so I will definitely continue reading it.

General Discussion / forum threads based on location

Was thinking it would be a pretty cool idea to have a new forum section that was dedicated to
The different locations. Would be cool to know if any FF members live near me? I know this forum is UK based but seem to be quite a few US members.

Writers' Corner / Im stuck
« on: July 21, 2014, 01:57:50 AM »
So I have the basic plot of my book outline both in my head and partially on paper. I have what characters are involved and what role they play. I have been having a difficult time figuring out one small detail. You could say that magic plays a minor role in the story but in actuality it decides a lot. One of the main protagonists is hunted for his abilities. Now I am having trouble deciding what type of magic/enlightenment is in my world. I know it seems that this question should be for my mind to figure out but... I am leaning towards a nature based magic...shamans,  necromancy, but am looking for one main although subvert ability that the "good" mages use. It is an innate magic but I can't think of something that isnt the everyday healing, spells etc...

Ability for magic is ostracized and punished by the ruling council.

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Infinity Blade?
« on: July 17, 2014, 07:36:31 PM »
Anyone read Brandon Sandersons little Infinity Blade novellas? The first one, Awakening was quite interesting and flowed much better than Redemption. If only he could expand upon this world. But seeing as it's for a video game. It seems unlikely.

Writers' Corner / Online writing courses?
« on: May 08, 2014, 07:10:37 AM »
Anybody have any experience with any free online writing courses? At this point. In person classes and ones that charge per credit are
Out of the question. Seen a few free ones that seem decent. Anyone like any in particular??

Writers' Corner / He did this, he said that

He? She?

After rereading what I've been writing I've noticed that I have been using He did this or that what seems
To me as waay too often. How do you overcome this? I try to make them stronger statements but it doesn't always work.

Any ideas? I would post an excerpt but you guys would probably call it Shit, so I'll refrain.

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Anyone know this book?
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:30:41 PM »
I didnt get any responses in the what is this book thread, so I thought id post it here. I figure this will get moved but i really wanna find this book

I had this book when I was near my teens. So it was over 15 yrs ago now. It was a
Great book and I seem to remember sequels were in the works. What I can remember

Focus on same old tree that seemed to be the center of power/magic
Quite an array of different creatures, many were on the cover.

Books been out at least 15 years.

Different cities vied for power and the tree had to be protected.

Any thoughts at all? If I see the cover I'll remember it.

Writers' Corner / new writer
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:15:01 AM »
Ive always wanted to write for as long as I can remember. With a kid, 4 dogs, full time
Job the time to sit down and write doesnt exist. I recently got the Writer app
On my phone and just started writing. I had no plot, location, characters going
Into the writing. Yet im at around 3k words and just started a few days ago. In terms of character development
And world building. Did the story come first and the world created by default or was your workd laid out?
