Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Re: Haruki Murakami
« on: May 09, 2012, 12:16:32 PM »
I LOVE Murakami ^.^

First read Kafka on the Shore a number of years ago and have since re-read it several times and it's still one of my favourite books of all time. It's hard to explain just what it is that draws you in, you just are and it's an amazing journey.

I also really enjoyed Wind-Up Bird Chronicles and After Dark. I do have 1Q84 to read but am waiting for some free time to give it the respect and love that it deserves (that doesn't sound cheesy at ALL *laughs*)

I do love Cassie's books - Not the Infernal Devices so much but the original trilogy of The Mortal Instruments are fantastic. The Shadow Hunters, Clary, Jace, Magnus (!!), Izzy, Simon - the story and characters are really fascinating.

While I didn't LOVE City of Fallen Angels - I am looking forward to getting my hands on City of Lost Souls ;)

Non-Fantasy Books / Re: Anybody read any of John Connolly's work?
« on: May 09, 2012, 12:00:34 PM »
The only John Connolly book I've read is The Book of Lost Things which from what I've heard is not one of his 'normal' books - but it's still one of my favourites. It's a kind of YA/Fantasy cross-over with a lot of the story drawn from the Grimm's fairytales etc. Very well written.

One day I shall get around to reading his other books as I've heard they're quite dark/gruesome :D

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Re: The Magician King - Lev Grossman

I have my copy on order! I, for one, am really looking forward to reading it :)

I wonder how many Aussies are here... Hmmmmm.... :p

Great game ^.^ I really enjoyed it - can't wait for Revelations either, the ending as a lot to answer for!! (and I'll say no more!)

Have any of you read the books? I've been tempted but not heard anything from anyone as yet..

Yeah, I'm not even going to watch it, I'm so sick of all of these 're-doing's' of really amazing classic shows.
Every time I see the trailer for the US version of Being Human I can't help but yell at the tv *grumbles*

Ha! awesome! I loved The World House! *goes off to enter* :)
I'd like to do a book giveaway sometime too, I've got so many proofs I could send off. Will wait for more followers though, me thinks. :)

Sci-Fi, Horror, YA & Urban Fantasy Books / Re: Ender's Game

I will read this book. I will read this book. I will read this book. I will read this book. I will read this book.

No, I really want to read this book. It's been on my to-read list for ages... *sigh* I need to not sleep anymore. It's so inconvenient.

Sci-Fi, Horror, YA & Urban Fantasy Books / Re: Rick Riordan
« on: July 20, 2011, 11:29:59 AM »
With all the YA fiction I read I have only read one of Rick's books!! How bad am I? *laughs*
I read the 39 clues series of which the first book was written by him and I do like his style. I have a copy of Percy Jackson's first book so I'm sure at some point I will get around to reading it!
I really do enjoy mythological themes in YA and we have discussed some of those books in the general YA thread here - including Michael Scott and I'm sure Rick has been mentioned too!

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Re: Diane Wynne Jones
« on: July 20, 2011, 11:14:42 AM »
Oh, I'm so glad to see this here - I love Diana so so so much. I was very very sad to hear of her passing earlier this year. The Howl's Moving Castle series is one of my favourites and even her stand-alone books The Game and Eight Days of Luke are so well written and lots of fun. Anyone who hasn't read her books really REALLY should!!! ^.^
