Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Most Disturbing Fantasy Novels

The wedding scene in ASOIAF totally got me, too. A lot of the deaths in these books shocked me to be honest. Until I read Martin I always thought main characters would never die. Well, he proofed me wrong. And again. And again. And again. :)
I remember reading The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. The scenes with Logan were a bit too realistic sometimes.

I'm in!  :) I think it's worth a try. Can't wait to get started.

I love anything with pasta and mushrooms. And Chinese food. I'm a vegetarian and I try to eat vegan every once in a while. Good thing about it is that you need to cook a lot of fresh stuff and cannot eat a lot of junk food. I'm not too good at cooking but nobody ever died in my kitchen.

@willriseagainst - witty comments (at least I'd like to think they are), ramblings and updates of my so-called life. I also like to stalk authors.

Naminé is a character that appears in the different games of the "Kingdom Hearts" series which I really love. Naminé is a very interesting character because she is able to manipulate the memories of others while she has no memories of her own life. And her name means "ocean wave" in Japanese.

Does anybody here own a Kobo (touch)? I'm thinking of buying an e-reader and I guess it gets down to Kobo or Kindle. The new Nook sadly isn't available in my home country. Any opinions?  Thanks!  :)

General Discussion / Kindle 4?!
« on: July 18, 2011, 03:41:19 PM »
I'm thinking about buying a Kindle (only good option for an e-reader in Germany as far as I can see), but I would like to have your opinion on
a) Kindle 3 with or without 3G? What are the benefits of 3G? Do I need it?
b) Get a Kindle 3 now or wait for Kindle 4? I don't want to buy a Kindle 3 now only to see its price drop radically in 2 months because Kindle 4 is out.

I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Hi there,
I know I'm late, but I started to use Goodreads (hooray!). Anybody who wants to add me, my username Naminé, too.

I had to cry during the end of Harry Potter 7, but I guess I'm not the only one at that.  ;) The ending of The Lord of the Rings still tears me up. As soon as I get to the last 50 pages, I'm feeling... unwell. I just don't want it to end. Ever. Sigh.

I loved The Lord of the Ring by Jackson, but the early version from 1978 is just hilariously weird.

The Earthsea movie was baaaad. I mean, really bad. The manga version by Hayao Miyazaki wasn't too bad, but I watched it with some friends that didn't know the books - and they didn't understand a thing. I just hate when that happens.

And the movie "Where the Wild Things Are" from 2009 just weirded me out. The monsters were cute, but the story?!  ???

I read "The Banned and the Banished" years ago. I liked it a lot, but was a bit disappointed by the end. But I guess I always am when a series ends.  :)

Read it and liked it! So, yes, I'm in.

I'm currently reading Fool's Errand and plan on reading the other two books of the triology as well. And then I'll finally get started on Wheel of Time. Oh, and Feed of course.

I was also more torn up by Hedwig and one of the twins than Dumbledore.

Yup, the twin thing was baaaad. Honestly, the last 100 pages of the book were bad. So many beloved characters died...  :-\ I'm a bit anxious to see the movie.
