I feel like the hobbit book was very much like a brothers Grimm fairy tale, but less dark and with a more developed world and story. the movies didn't capture that, they made something more like a modern fast paced, action oriented YA book.

how did he come from making the greatest fantasy film series of all time to making a standard Hollywood action movie with mediocre CGI and no story.

the lord of the rings was the best three movies I have ever seen and when I saw that Peter Jackson was making a movie of the hobbit I was so exited. then after I saw the two hobbit movies I lost my trust in him completely.
the hobbit seems to serve no other purpose than to make Peter Jacksons wallet thicker. it is a shameful deed against Tolkiens work, and it takes advantage of the fans.

what happened to him.

I found a series called "Chalion" by Lois McMaster Bujold while browsing in a book store. now I have to decide between that and Guy Gavriel Kay

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / could someone recommend me a book
« on: July 27, 2014, 11:46:08 PM »
I need recommendations for a new book to read. I've tried browsing online but I have found that I become way too critical when I have so many options.

I want something a bit similar to robin hobbs books (I've only read one so far but will read more because I really like her style of fantasy). preferably fairly low magic and nice beautiful scenery (not like mistborn, where everything is brown and dead).

is there any high fantasy TV shows or movies other than lord of the rings and game of  thrones.
I can't find anything else than legend of the seeker which was terrible, except maybe merlin.
I really enjoyed merlin but that finished.

please, I really want to watch some good fantasy!

You seem very similar in taste to me because you have the exact same favorites as me, so I*m just going to recommend other stuff I've enjoyed. ok, Robin Hobb's books are very good although their a bit slow and my next book to read is "the lies of Locke Lamora" by scott lynch, it seems totally awesome!

Fantasy Book & Author Discussion / Re: Best Book You Have Not Read

I'm 15 years old and I've read fantasy for a while but about a week ago I hadn't read lord of the rings yet. everybody is asking me how many times I've read it before when I tell them I'm reading lotr.

I too recommend Patrick Rothfuss, I would describe him as classic high fantasy done in a very modern style.

I think Robin Hobb's farseer trilogy would be awesome as a movie if they got past trying to make it into a crazy action movie with too much special effects.
