Fantasy-Faction's 2013 Anthology / Entry Plus
« on: March 05, 2013, 09:20:21 PM »
Hi,

I was just wondering how long the entryplus critiques will be. I know they will take a while to do them well, but it has been a while since the winners were announced.

Thanks
Matt

I don't have high hopes but my fingers are crossed that I'll be on the list tomorrow.

Good luck everyone!

Congratulations to everyone listed so far. I'm waiting for today's to be posted, though I don't hold my breath for being on it. One thing that is confusing me is that some people say this is the longlist and others are calling it the shortlist. Am I right to say the top 30 are the longlist and the published 6 are the short list with the top 3 being the winners.

Thanks
Matt

Fantasy-Faction's 2013 Anthology / Re: Are you entering the contest?
« on: June 30, 2012, 06:41:17 PM »
Hi,

I've just entered. WC is 7955 according to Word and that includes the title and my name. When I started writing I thought I'd struggle to pass 5K, then about halfway through I thought I'd aim for 6500. Then I finished the first draft and it was 8400 so I cut 1000 words from the start and redid it in 300 words. A load of edits later and I submitted it.

I'm looking forward to the Entry Plus criqtiue.

Out of interest, what sites are you using to calculate WC and why would they be different to Word?

Thanks
Matt

Fantasy-Faction's 2013 Anthology / Re: Speech Marks
« on: June 24, 2012, 11:01:03 PM »
Hi,

I was basing it on authors like J K Rowling and Terry Pratchett using 'speech'.

Does it matter for out entries?

Thanks

Fantasy-Faction's 2013 Anthology / Speech Marks

Hi,

Does anyone know what the standard for speech marks in the anthology will be?

In the UK most books have it like this:

'Speech,' he said.

But in the US I think it's

"Speech," he said.

Should I use single quote marks for speech or double quote marks?

Thanks
Matt

Fantasy-Faction's 2013 Anthology / Re: Is Entry-Plus closed?

Hi,

How many Entry Plus's are left? I want to enter with the option, but won't be entering until a few days before the deadline. How long until you think they will run out?

Thanks
Matt

Will the anthology be available of Amazon, too?

Either way I'm still going to buy it!

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the response. If they load it into their kindles that should be good. However, does that mean we should aim to format our stories so we use indents for paragraphs? Reading on a computer is easier with 1.5 or 2x spacing, but a kindle is easier with indentations.

I'm probably thinking too much into this, aren't I?

Thanks
Matt

Fantasy-Faction's 2013 Anthology / Digital Entry

Hi,

I know that I am to enter digitally to the contest, but that got me thinking. Do you read the entries on screen or print them off? If you read them on screen do you use Word? I ask because I'm worried that the red squiggly lines under made up names and the green lines under sentences that word thinks are wrong would be very distracting in longer pieces. Do you turn spell check and things off when you read on the screen?

I'm really excited for the release of the anthology. Is it only available from this site or will it be sold on Amazon, too?

Thanks
Matt
