Hey guys,

Members have been really generous this year and we're very close to hitting our target and covering Fantasy-Faction's running costs ;D ;D ;D That's pretty awesome and I'm really grateful, because a few years back when we were closing in on renewal day I'd be hyperventilating :P

If you love what we're doing here at Fantasy-Faction and would like to throw a few £/$ towards keeping us up and running (as I know many of you already do), our donation page is here: http://fantasy-faction.com/support-us (Paypal email if easier is: Marc@Fantasy-Faction.com ).

It's Paypal-based, so really easy and quick to do. Of course, only consider doing so if you can afford it  :D

Thanks all - here's to another year or two (maybe)...  :P

I am considering doing an Indie Steam recommendations video, but thought I'd post here and ask what you guys are playing? :D

Maybe as a top 5... here's mine:
Hollow Knight (Fantasy),
Enter The Gungeon (Fantasy),
Super Meat Boy (no idea how you class this!),
Doki-Doki Literature Club (Sci-Fi),
BroForce (Sci-Fi),

Honourable mention:
Pony Island (Urban Fantasy / Sci-Fi).

This topic has been moved to Forum News & Help, because things *seem* to be fixed now (touch wood and all that!)

Fantasy Resources / Re: Pornokitsch blog announced its end :(
« on: February 21, 2018, 12:37:26 PM »
We've lost so many good blogs recently.

I can absolutely related to Jared and Anne's position - Fantasy-Faction caused me real health issues at one point and began to hurt my work pretty significantly even before that. I'm very, very lucky to have the Mods/Jennie/Staff... without them F-F would have been lost a long time ago.

When I started F-F there weren't any Fantasy communities around. In fact, it was my frustration that only Sci-Fi based forums, etc existed that pushed me to create the site (remember that this was a time before Facebook Groups, Goodreads and Reddit).

I think it's cool that there are more Fantasy communities now than there were back then and welcome more. Fantasy-Faction isn't as big as it once was (my fault due to having other stuff going on in my life), but we've an amazingly loyal and brilliant community and it's not the size of it or exclusivity that causes that (thankfully).

I'll miss Laura who will leave us, but at the same time she is setting off on her own journey with other people I'm very fond of and I know how exciting that is (and also how scary!). I wish her (and all of them) luck :D In terms of any hard feelings: Laura and I met up in person recently, plan to again soon and speak regularly online. We're friends and always will be ;)

Finally.... Fantasy Hive have said they won't have a Facebook Group/Forum, so you won't need to worry too much about the crossover on that side of things. Fantasy-Faction's articles aren't as regular as they once were, but we'll keep putting things out and we'll keep our social channels open and we'll perhaps surprise you with some new kinds of content early next year too.

You're all too sweet. :D
Thanks a lot and your good wishes must've worked wonders!
I haven't taken pain medication since Wednesday and am at the moment traveling alone from Berlin to Sweden by train (and ferry). I'm still easily exhausted and carrying stuff doesn't feel good but from what I heard and read, I had the best possible outcome. :)

Boy, I can't remember if I've ever been away from the forums for such a long time in the last ~six years... (Can't remember because I haven't.)

I'm really glad that all the functions are working again. Thanks a lot, @Overlord, I have absolutely no expertise in this area, but it couldn't have been easy.

You don't know how many unread topics there are. How do you expect me to catch up with that? Hopefully the wifi on the train is stable then I should manage some of it.

Thanks again, you're amazing. :)

Glad to have you back :-)

Huge thank you to those who donated ^_^ At £175 of £430, so looking likely we will hit the target and be able to capture the event for those of you who can't make it. I uploaded a video of Joe Abercrombie answering a question about feedback: http://fantasy-faction.com/2017/fantasy-faction-vlog-project

Sorry again it's on a day many of you can't make it, will miss you guys.

Monday?! Sorry. I can't take a Monday off in term time.

I know :-( It was the only day we could make work with them all.

Currently trying to raise funds for a good camera so we can record the event for those who can't make it. I did record one on my phone, but it wasn't great to be honest! The biggest issue is memory and battery, so getting our own camera makes sense if we can raise enough - we can take it to events and meet-ups (not just future Grim Gatherings) and record vlogs for those too. I guess we'll see if there is demand for it ^_^

Sorry, guys >.<

I am trying to do a more Northern based event, it's just that when they begin planning events and they are like 'hmm... Bristol / Bath? Who do we know that knows those areas?' then my phone rings xP

Good luck with it, Jonathan.

It's a pleasure to call you a friend, man.

I'm proud of all you've achieved so far, I just feel it's so damned unfair that a guy can draw AND write  :P :P :P :P

The next Grim Gathering will be on:
Monday 25th September, 6.30pm at Waterstones Bath.

There will be 5 authors there including the amazing Peter V. Brett, Joe Abercrombie, Mark Lawrence (subject to life being kind), Peter Newman and Anna Stephens.

We will be having drinks at a local establishment afterwards and if enough people are staying overnight we can plan a breakfast the next day (or if not, lunch before?).

Not this year. I went last year and quite enjoyed it, but I think it's an event I will be going to every other year as it's in London O:)
