Re: Looking for Books to Read and Review!
Let the rain of books begin!

If you enjoy adventure fantasy and the excerpt intrigues you, I'd be happy to send you a review copy of my first book, Glyphbinder. Just let me know you preferred format (Kindle, Nook, PDF, etc).

Regarding reviews, I've heard it all (eveything from "I love this book!" to "This is the worst thing I've ever read") so please be honest and don't worry about offending me. If you like it, great! If not, I'll try to make my next one better. Either way, we'll still be friends. :)

You can read some review excerpts at the link in my signature, but I've reposted the stuff you asked for below. If it intrigues you, just PM me and let me know where to send your review copy.

Book: Glyphbinder
Author: T. Eric Bakutis
Number of Pages: 317

Cover:

Blurb:
Quote
Kara was thirteen when she learned her mother was dying. Five years later, the last component of her mother's cure waits in the city of Tarna, but that is one journey she may not survive.

Even as a Glyphbinder, a wielder of blood glyphs created by a people long dead, Kara is no match for the madman that hunts her or the dark forces at his beck and call. As those Kara loves fall one by one, her hunter's purpose is finally revealed.

Demons thought long defeated stir now in the shadows of her world, seeking a dark power hidden in Kara's blood. Tireless and without pity, these demons will not be satisfied until they claim Kara's world ... and her soul.

Re: Book idea? Does writing that story excite you?

Then write it.

Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I read once that there are only a dozen different stories in existence, and every novel is a version of one or more of them. Revenge, romance, triumph, overcoming odds etc.

When you deconstruct them, every story has a familiar theme at its core. Because there are no new stories, there is just telling them in new ways.

So if scarred slave fighting for survival and vengeance blows your hair back, then that's what you write. It's supposed to be fun, after all.

Re: How much did you write today? After weeks of delay waiting for allllll the feedback to settle in my unruly mind, and then for my mind to generate some viable approaches to executing that feedback, I'm finally back at it.

I've topped 6K words in 24 hours, and my night's just getting started. That doesn't count probably 1K of deletions, so perhaps as much as 7. I'll take it. Feels good to have a sense of direction again. The writing's the easy part, compared to deciding WHAT to write, and how.

Re: How much did you write today? Hoping to hit 1000, will update after attempt.

Update:  I fell asleep in my comfy chair listening to 'May It Be' by Enya.  Only 350ish words in. :(

Sounds like you have the opposite problem that most writers have, which intrigues me. I always have a pretty good idea about what I want to write; that comes easy to me. But it's the getting it down on the paper/screen that always ails me.

That said, I was able to complete 4k words yesterday in 3 hours on my Freelance project (which is coming together almost TOO well). I literally free-balled it and just wrote, and while most of the time that doesn't turn out too great, I gave it a re-read this morning and it's perfect. Now I'm struggling with the fact that once I'm done this project/novel I'll never see it again  :'(

Re: How long do you give a book to grab you? I have zero rules, because I give no chance on a book if it annoys me in any way. Seems boring? Don't care for the character? Slowing down in unexciting ways? Too thick on the cliche? Too one dimentional? DNF.
That happens in the first page, or right into the last few chapters, or right in the middle. For a variety of reasons.

A few people were gushing recently on The Shadow of What Was Lost, and when I opened it, on the first page there was :

Quote
For a moment the waters of Eryth Mmorg were lit, roiling and churning as though a great knife had plunged deep into the pool’s murky heart.
(...)
Quote
Behind him lay the flat, barren rock that was Taag’s Peak.

And my brain immediately froze, and went to this :

Spoiler for Hiden:

Closed the book and put it back on the shelf. Too horrendously cliche like the cheap fantasy I couldn't get my head into when I was fourteen, even less so at 27. If people kept telling me it's awesome, I'd push through, give it a couple of chapters, but see, I don't have time to dally around. There are billions of books out there, so if names on the first page make me snort, no point in forcing it, when others will give it their love and time.
