Re: Fantasycon 2016, 23-25th September Everything going to plan, I should be having a book launch at this con on the Saturday. Not a novel, but an anthology that I co-edited and have a small but fierce story in :) Exciting times!

Re: Adventures in Writing So yeah, that short story ultimately got rejected. Don't feel too bad for me though...
I do now have a literary agent! *BlinkBlink* Still a little in shock.
Everything going well, my novel will be sent out to publishers early next year!

Re: Nanowrimo 2016 It's all about the picture Lanko's been posting lately, of a stick figure sitting at a computer. Behind him, another stick figure aims a pistol at the writer's head and is saying "WRITE THE $#*(@#& BOOK"

Re: Short Stories I can recommend The Complete Conan, with only stories by Robert Howard.

It's from the 30s, following the pulp fiction style. So some parts may feel dated. But Howard was definitely a great author as it also has parts that make a lot of stuff today look pretty bad.

Re: Short Stories I love short stories, and desperately need to read more. They are also perfect if you want to try an author's work and don't want to dive into a 600+ high fantasy tome. There are quite a few short story collections for relatively cheap on Kindle if you have one of those.

This is great for any kind of genre of writing really, Kelly Link does great magical realism/magic short stories. For example if you want to read Murakami and don't know where to begin The Elephant Vanishes is a perfect starting point.

Re: Short Stories Have you tried the Fantasy Faction Anthology? It available from the front page.

I am a fan of the Gardner Dozois , GRRM edited anthologies , Warriors, dangerous women and Rogues.
