Re: Game of Thrones season 8 (with spoilers) Just watched the most recent episode last night. First and foremost, why does Cersei get such a good death? She's beheaded, burned and tortured people, yet she is allowed to die in the arms of the man she loves. Dany goes insane and Cersei gets an emotional death while being comforted, WTH? They actually diminished Jaime's death and character with that scene while improving hers. They wanted you to feel sympathy for her. I don't want sympathy I want a fitting death. Or even better permanent imprisonment with the nuns. I would have accepted Cersei marrying the Night King raising her children from the grave and ruling the 7 kingdoms as the undead high queen more than her getting a death that good.

Clegane bowl I think was done well. I don't understand how the writers saw the clear path to his story's end but completely missed the mark on so many others.

I'm mostly just watching to finish the story now. The Battle for Winterfell left me completely turned off by the story shift. Although, it made me understand why HBO called it Game of Thrones and not A Song of Ice and Fire. They didn't want the magic of ice and fire. They wanted the reality tv show drama at the core. They just used the other stuff as the backdrop and discarded it as soon as they could to move on to Big Brother King's Landing.

Re: Game of Thrones season 8 (with spoilers)
Well, I have watched season 8 only up to the third episode, but already knew most of the horrible horrible things that have happened from the internet. I don't think I'll even bother watching at this point and just pretend that this season doesn't exist  (Dang, and I've already bought several expensive posters for the show too  ???).

After finishing the show, I've decided to edit the story in my mind. When the wall fell in Season 7, everything ended and the Night King won. There was no season 8. All men must die. And they did. The end.

Re: Active members with novels Wish I was more active. The downside to being an introvert I guess. I'll get there. 150 posts. Should only take about 3 or 4 yrs. Hah.

Re: Prequels , do you care for them? I enjoyed the WoT Prequel New Spring. The earlier mentioned Hawkwing or First Sealing would be interesting.
Terry Brooks wrote First King as Prequel to Sword of Shannara and I thought it was decent, even knowing how the final conflict would end.
I'm a little curious about the Prequel for George R. R. Martin about Old Valeria. I believe I heard HBO was doing it. Suspect it may be GOT reboot in a new setting.

I guess it just matters on the story. Is there a compelling enough story in the past to bring readers back. I like returning to old worlds and learning more.

Re: What are you currently watching? I'm currently watching Angel all the way through.

Almost through the last season of Magicians. Absolutely love it. One of the few book to screen transitions that I think was done well, despite veering far from the source material.

I also have an oath to Sam and Dean that I will return and catch up with Supernatural before they go down in a blaze of glory. The last episode I watched was Scooby Doo crossover or the one right after. I have been with the boys since the premier and hope to be there for the end.

My start with Fantasy RPG video games I began my love of RPGs in the 80s. My first was Dragon Warrior on the original Nintendo. Second was the first Final Fantasy. I fell in love. And this was long before they started adding in-depth stories and character personalities. Final Fantasy X is still my favorite. I was hooked and bought every one I could find. Those two franchises have kept me coming back over the decades. Currently playing Dragon Quest XI and Final Fantasy XV on and off.

There were a few others that really caught me up. Legend of Dragoon, Lunar the Silver Star, Secret of Mana, and Chrono Trigger.

Was curious if there was anyone else with similar roots. Or at least the same love for Fantasy RPGs and JRPGs.

Re: Favorite Book quote Perhaps because I have read it so many times or because the books were such a long part of my life, this is always the first one to come to mind.

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again."

I almost got it printed on trim to run around my office. But I decided later to do that with my own books.

Final Edits Finished. That feels good. I woke up today with the final edits for my novel Tears of Hatsunae completed. Gonna do one more skim for those last little sneaky errors that seem to hide through round after round of editing. But then it is time to assemble the novel and get it ready for publishing. Not sure which part is more daunting, trying to make sure the grammar is correct or trying to get the book format to work.

Re: Ethics in my setting. Could use some thoughts. Perhaps the taking of a life of an evildoer is the balance of bad against the good deeds that they do. They balance their virtue by being the dispatchers of justice when it is for the common good. They take on those burdens so another doesn't have to. But only when warranted.
