Anyone for a brew? Hello! I haven't read much fiction over the last couple of years but have been slowly getting back into it of late. My son is 4 now, so things are "calming down" - as in, he is in bed and asleep at a predictable time every evening now, and sleeps through until morning. Sigh of relief. I recently sat up and cried "Books! I used to love books!"  ;D

Of course I still don't get out as much as I used to, so I've been looking for somewhere to make some friends and discuss books - maybe even join in with some Read Alongs. This place looks comfortable. I can bring my own tea.. :)

I don't know what I'll read first. Now I've remembered that books exist, I feel positively spoilt for choice.. and of course I have no knowledge of what was released in the last five years or so. :)

Re: How did you Choose your Nickname? I like tea. And Robin Hobb's RotE. And sleeping outdoors, "in the nettles". I have tried nettle tea while fishing, it's ok when you're out of tea bags.. Additional factoid: I named my dog Nettle after
Spoiler for Hiden:
Fitz's daughter
. She's a very sweet choccy lab.  :D

Re: Misc. thread New around here and just found this..

I read GotM right before our baby arrived. It was, bat-shit crazy, surprising, sickening, twisted, ferocious, fast - my wife used to look over and see the look on my face while I was reading it and ask if I was ok. :)

DG is up on the shelves somewhere, unread so far.. and I feel Malazanic stirrings on finding these re-read topics.

Maybe if I finish Hobb's RotE over Christmas... :D

Memorable reads Come closer. The fire is warm. It's snowing outside. Let's share some stories of memorable reads. No, not the books themselves, the when and the where. Perhaps you were someone else back then? Somewhere else? Or for some other reason, you'll never forgot?

I read The Lord of the Rings as a teenager. Our school library was small. It only had the first part, The Fellowship of the Ring, as if they were trying to save the shelf space until somebody actually asked for part two.

I started reading as winter began, and just before having an operation on my foot. We had an open fire in the lounge back then, in that house, and I've never forgotten reading The Lord of the Rings sat in front of that warm crackling fire, day after cold day with my foot in bandages and the hail and rain on the window. Every day for weeks I just got up, my Dad would light the fire and bring me a bucket of coal and some logs, and leave me to it. And I would sit and read The Lord of the Rings all day, while my foot healed..

How about you? What read is fixed in your memory, and why?  :)
